What age is too old to apply sun cream to a teen?

Feel like what I am seeing is a bit weird but I am not sure it’s just different to my own parenting of teens

Mine started doing their own around 12.

StrawberriesAndCreamPlease · 11/08/2022 21:41

If you’re the mil. Butt out.

SeaToSki · 11/08/2022 21:42

To apply if teen asks for help with tricky bits that they cant reach..never to old
To apply if teen is trying to not get hands sticky because they are about to do an activity and cant wash or wipe hands, and teen asks for help…never to old
To apply if teen has SEN and doesnt understand /like the feeling etc or teen has a disability and doesnt have the coordination…never to old
To tell teen they have to and then insist on putting it on for them…age 12 is my limit

Pruella · 11/08/2022 21:42

Too old in what sense? Like I inappropriate touching odd or lazy teens odd?

ScarlettDarling · 11/08/2022 21:42

What, do you mean putting it on their backs when on holiday? We all do that for each other in our family, not weird at all.

MaggieDragon · 11/08/2022 21:42

Back- any age
Bits they can do themselves- Id expect them to be doing this from 8 or so, with supervision.

Hyvsvaar · 11/08/2022 21:43

I still help 15 yr old out and definitely 13 yr old who is
very pale. Would grab the 18 yr old if i thought he was at risk of burning..

FlyingSaucerss · 11/08/2022 21:44

Why do you think it’s a problem?

Purpleforthewin · 11/08/2022 21:44

I generally only do hard to reach places like back for my 14 yo and that's been the case for at least a couple of years

We use aerosol sprays and the kids seem to think they only need to do the front..they are good as no rubbing in needed

Hmm I do dh's back and he's 57...

Chichila · 11/08/2022 21:48

Not sure why I think it feels a little odd hence the post

I have two daughters myself but both are a bit younger

Me and DS (who is 22) always spray each other with sunscreen, because it's easier to have someone else do it and get all of you covered. We are quite relaxed around each other in out undies though, we always share a room on holiday.

Spacerader · 11/08/2022 21:48

I still help my dd 14 put sun cream on, because she isn't great at doing it. She misses bits or tries to get out of it.

LidFlipper · 11/08/2022 21:49

I’m 28 and my dad put sun cream on my back for me the other week
because my arms don’t bend that way.

SnowWhitesSM · 11/08/2022 21:49

I tend to spray my teens and do their backs because if I don't the fuckers will dodge it as they hate it (but they don't burn, they're not fair and I might be more strict if they were). When I had a dss (7/8) he was fair and I did the same for him as his dad (for all the woe is me act of how much I love my kid) was shit at looking after him for those sort of basics.

But how do you do your own back without missing bits?! You’re being ridiculous.

RewildingAmbridge · 11/08/2022 21:50

Why would it bother you? Surely if the child and the parent applying it are fine with it there's no issue.
DH and I do each other's backs I'm in my thirties and he's nearly forty, too old? When we went away recently I did DFs back and his bald spot! He's seventy. Surely it's ok to help each other out.

Spacerader · 11/08/2022 21:51

Also surely you need someone to do your back for you. I cab do my own back. Dp or one of the dc do my back. Dp has even done my kegs and arms.

Sorry op, I just don't think it's odd that a parent would help a teen put suncream on

SnowWhitesSM · 11/08/2022 21:54

Tbh when I was a teen girl I wouldn't have wanted my dad rubbing suncream in my legs/thighs whilst wearing bikini bottoms. I can see how you might see it as a little odd OP. My ds is 14 and if we go to the beach with friends and their 14yr old daughters it's not the norm to have suncream rubbed in your legs at that age.

It's step parenting though, everything is more child like as they frequently see them as younger than what they are.

Arucanafeather · 11/08/2022 21:55

My kids did themselves since they’re about 6/7 years old! I did supervise them to make sure they learnt how to put it on absolutely everywhere but they put it on themselves and were always very thorough. They usually wear 50+ protection rash vests so rarely needed backs doing although we would still do each other’s backs if we didn’t have the vests on.

I know - this is what I think how I would have felt as a teen . Just seems bit off kilter to me

I would want ex dh putting it on my girls at that age don’t think
