My stepson calls for me rather than his dad.

That's the whole post really.

My stepson is 2.5 years old and I've lived with his dad since he was 3 months old so he doesn't know a life without me.

When he wakes up he usually calls my name, instead of his dad. Same when he's upset. Trust me I don't love the early mornings sometimes but I can't deny it fills my heart with love when I hear him call my name.

Just some positivity on this not always positive forum.

I think that is very sweet. I hope this thread stays positive for you.

That's sweet.

That's sweet.

My SD18 will call me when she needs help, not her dad...she lives with us. It also fills my heart when she texts me "love you"

QuirkyTurtle · 24/01/2022 13:14

@CherylPorter350 - I can't omg that's so sweet! My stepson obviously can't text yet but if he ever texts me that I think I will just spontaneously self combust.

These little things make the stress of being a stepparent worth it.

@QuirkyTurtle being a step parent can be hard but it's so worth it. The love, and respect, of my step kids has been earned and makes me feel very lucky. They both know I'll do anything for them, just as I do my own.

I know opinions on here vary wildly but I believe each child should know they're loved by all the adults in their life. I've always been very involved in their life's...early morning drive for swim meets, night time drives to a youth club, now I do 3am pick ups after the pub 😀

So true and good on you, you sound like an amazing person!

I sometimes worry when my stepson is older he will be resentful that his siblings have both parents living together so I try my best to treat him as my own. He'll have four parents loving him and caring for him when most people are lucky to have two. At least that's what I tell myself.
