Sd's dad is awful payer- spends his money on swapping cars (2nd hand) all the time - only paid once in last 6 weeks (3 times in 10 weeks)

If pays then get more than legally has to pay but getting is a struggle nagging each week

Just needed to vent

Go through the CMS. Let them do the chasing.

Does he work? Is he self employed?

Can you use CMS as pp said? If not then the parent you live with is just going to have to learn not to rely on it unfortunately.

If your partner has exhausted all of her available legal recourse then there is little that you can do. If she has not exhausted the legal options available to her, then you should suggest that she do so. If she has made her peace with the situation, then you should have no feelings or involvement in that particular aspect of their relationship.. Rarely does anything positive come from having any involvement of investment in the financial dealings between ex spouses.

If you are choosing to step in and help your partner, that is an elective choice on your part and it has nothing to do with ex. If your partner is expecting you to assist as a way of compensating for the father's failure to pay, that speaks as much about your choice of a partner as it does about the ex's lack of character and responsibility.
