Hi....it's been a long time since I popped in here. I know why. I've just spent an hour browsing!! I have to say that at a particular time in my life the people that responded to my messages gave me great comfort and understanding and for that I am very gratful. I read some of these threads with sadness as being a step parent can be so hard. What a great place Mumsnet id for support!

You know I'm not a stepmum anymore....well sort of. DH and I split up but I still see SD all the time we are great friends. Her BM is still as strange as ever but hey at least I don't doubt myself anymore.

Hi to you all. Wishing you all well and Merry Christmas x

Hey! Anyone out there coz I've had a glass of wine (and I haven't had one for aaaaaaages as I'm doing slimming world).

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2008 05:30

Sorry surfermum, no-one was about last night, hope you don't have a headache this morning, lol.

Surfermum · 16/02/2008 11:29

Hey Squirrel! What were you doing up at 5.30 am? .

I was very good, I had one glass, but decided against any more as it went straight to my head and I'm out tonight. Blimey - I'm getting sensible in my old age.

How are things with you?

Squirrel3 · 17/02/2008 03:18

Hi surfermum, sensible? old age? you? Never!

As you can tell I don't sleep much these days, I am in so much pain with this the dr has put me on morphine until the pain blocks can go in, it helps a bit but when the effects wear off the pain wakes me up and I can't go back to sleep. I don't want to take it reguarly because of the dangers of becoming addicted but the pain is so bad I need to do something now and then. Trouble is, there isn't usually anyone on here at 3am to chat to, lol.

Feel a bit of a fraud going on at dss1 about his drug taking when I am on morphine though (yes, he is still taking them dispite dp, his mother and everyone around him bending over backwards to try to help him)

How are you? Good I hope?

reflection · 17/02/2008 22:17

Oh Squirrel that sounds really tough for you. How long do you think you might have to wait for the pain blocks?

And hi reflection . 5.5lbs off so far, had a birthday weekend away a couple of weekends ago so had a really slow start this time. I'm feeling very motivated at the moment, so much so that in the last 17 days I've had 2 glasses of wine .

But give it a go, it works as long as you stick to it and you can eat loads .... it just isn't anything like chocolate or cake!

I'm off tomorrow to pick up dsd to come for the rest of half term . Yes, I'm actually allowed to go and get her now, so dh doesn't have to take the day off work. I'm looking forward to that, I do love having her around, I love seeing her and dd playing together and she makes me laugh (when she's not having a pre-teen strop!).

Squirrel3 · 20/02/2008 10:36

Oooopps! surfermum, as I was reading your post I was stuffing my face with chocolate cake!

I really should go on a diet or something atm but, erm, I just can't be bothered... and chocolate is sooooooooooo nice... and I need to treat myself now and then don't I?... and live without the occasional glass of wine!? NEVER! ...

Ok, if reflection gives slimming world a go I will too, are you up for it Reflection?

I really need to lose some weight by the end of May, I don't want to look like the wicked, FAT stepgrandmother at dsgs's christening, (is that right? Darling Step Grand Son, still can't believe I am 'nanny' to four kids now!)

reflection · 20/02/2008 19:46

Ok. Day two of 'healthy eating'. Mmmm....not much fun but feeling smug!

So, if I can get passed the weekend without troughing on half a packet of biscuits and a whole block of cheese I'll be happy. However if self help doesn't work this time then it's off to Slimming world...

Surfermum I'm liking the whole eating loads thing.

BUT I have signed up for trampoling, bouncey, bouncey. (does that allow me a bit of chocolate cake do you reckon?)

Squirrel I bet you look gorgeous just the way you are. you know I can't belive your a 'nanny' either. Not a day over thirty
