Cards. What do you do?

Not really a big thing but curious.

When signing cards for example birthday cards, do you include your SC?

It would depend who it were I guess so if happened to be writing a card to my husband's family / friends that knew them well I would obviously. But I don't for my family / friends who barely know them.

If it's someone who has met my stepson or a close family member I include. If it's one of my mates who has never seen hide nor hair of him I don't.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/07/2021 23:19

Depends. Some friends know them well, especially those with similar aged DC. Some barely know them so it would be weird.

Maybe83 · 15/07/2021 23:21

I just put maybe, dh and family. Cover all the different variations.

SapphireCharm · 15/07/2021 23:26

Yes, I always include my step child as she is part of our family.

NakedAttraction · 15/07/2021 23:27

A friend of mine sends me cards signed with her DP and DSD as well. Given I’ve never met either of them I find it a bit odd.

Tiredoftattler · 16/07/2021 00:03

I would imagine it depends upon what you represent as family to your family, friends, and acquaintance. I send cards to friends, colleagues, and acquaintances and sign my name only unless they are people who know and have interacted with us as a family.
If you wish to be ambiguous, you can sign it Judy and family. That permits the recipient to interpret as they will.

Do you give a lot of thought to the signature/signatures on cards that you receive? I suspect that most people simply think "oh how nice/thoughtful " and move on to the next card. Most people don't allocate a lot of their time examining the signatures on cards.

You are way over thing and assigning too much importance to this.

"Over thing" Grin

Tiredoftattler · 16/07/2021 01:17

Correction: " over thinking "

mommabear2386 · 16/07/2021 05:31

If it's to my partners family yes it's all 6 of us, if it's to my family or our friends it's just my dh and our son

Uramaki · 16/07/2021 06:36

Depends on who it's too and if the DSC have met them enough really. I don't overthink it, it just seems to happen naturally.

Wjevtvha · 16/07/2021 06:40

If I write my DH and DCs names then I include DSD too, I think DH would be hurt if I didn’t even to my family members who don’t know her well

Uramaki · 16/07/2021 06:46

I think DH would be hurt if I didn’t even to my family members who don’t know her well I guess it all depends on family relationships and who writes the cards. My DH doesn't really get involved with my family's cards and I don't get involved in his. I could write anything in my family's and he would never know Grin

Sarcobaleno · 16/07/2021 07:40

My DF and DSM never signed my name, but did for the second lot of kids. They received cards at Christmas that some siblings were on but not me, from family members and close family friends who I knew. That hurt. Just sign all the names.

dorris88 · 16/07/2021 07:51

I sign my cards from my family. DSD is my family therefore she is included. Whether they've met her or not 🤨 she still exists.

Really weird thing to over think to me it's blatantly obvious

DuchessDarty · 16/07/2021 09:14

Yes always include, always have.

aSofaNearYou · 16/07/2021 09:34

No I have never done this, absolutely need for the people on my side of the family, and I don't take the lead with signing my DPs.

Youseethethingis · 16/07/2021 11:24

I don't sign my DSDs name if it feels like an overstep if it's something her mum would normally do. Like fathers Day cards - I sorted a card from my DSs and DSDs mother sorted one from her. No need to double up.
Christmas cards I generally do include her as my friends include her on their cards so it's appropriate.

Bookaholic73 · 16/07/2021 13:27

I sign from me, DH and my kids.

Sarcobaleno · 16/07/2021 13:41

@Bookaholic73

I sign from me, DH and my kids.
Out of curiosity, and not meaning to single you out, but interested in your reasons... if you were righting a card to your PIL would you put on your DSC names? If not why? Thanks
AbsolutelyTerrific · 16/07/2021 13:51

If its to DHs family I include DSC, if it's to mine I don't, just our DC.

LadyCluck · 16/07/2021 16:00

If it’s DH’s family then I include the SC. If it’s my family or friends then I don’t.

ElderMillennial · 16/07/2021 16:13

Got his family in include them

For my family and friends I tend not to

Bookaholic73 · 16/07/2021 19:52

@Sacro (it doesn’t tag you, sorry).

I don’t write cards to my PIL. My DH does.

ElderMillennial · 16/07/2021 23:26

Meant to say in cards to his family (I write most of them) I include SDC

In cards to my family and friends I mostly don't but my SDC don't often see my family and friends as they live a distance away.

Anordinarymum · 16/07/2021 23:29

Just put " and family"

Easy
