Critically ill ex & caring for children advice

I posted before about my partners ex wife. She is critically ill in Hosptial. She’s in a coma & had major brain surgery. I’m currently looking after my step children (well we’re not married) with my partner - he works full time so I need to do school runs etc as I fortunately work part time and from home and I also have a daughter.

Has anyone been in this situation? I have so many questions. What if she doesn’t pull through? Our flat isn’t big enough for 3 children as only 2 bedrooms . obviously we will sell and move but tht could take months. What happens a long term? I’m so scared and worried for my step kids. I will do anythin for them but I can’t replace there mum. I’m tryin so so hard to keep it together for them & they seem ok at moment. Going forward I don’t know what to expect. Anyone tht has any advice please message me xx

Ask for help, contact the school, social services /local charity anyone. They need professional help and support and the sooner the better, and your daughter will need support so let her school know. What you are doing is wonderful but it's going to be hard so don't feel bad for asking for support.

Speak to people they will help you. Is your dp close to her family? The children should still see grandparents etc if possible. Can they visit her or is it not appropriate?
The school, ss etc should be able to help you and sometimes the hospital will have age appropriate books to help young ones understand.
Ref flat how old are kids and how big rooms? Could you get a decent sofa bed for living room as that plus two bed rooms means you should have occupancy for up to 6 units (6 ppl) provided bedrooms are both doubled - not a long term solution but it will be workable short term.
