DSS upstairs shouting that he wants Mummy. What do I do?

Just wondering if anyone has some immediate advice. DSS 5, who I have a very good relationship with is extremely tired and started having a tantrum when I told him he had to go to bed. He's now shouting that he wants Mummy. He has very rarely done this in the past but only when things aren't going his way and I'm sure that it is to get a reaction from me. Just not sure what to do now......

I personally would take the phone up and let him talk to her.

I dunno - give him a cuddle?

Give him a cuddle and explain that he will see her tomorrow (or whenever). Try and have a nice chat when he calms down?

i would have a gentle word to see if you tell you why he wants mummy - obv mostly because he's overtired and upset, but he may come up with another reason you can deal with

eg you could say, what if mummy were here now - I think she would say it's time to be asleep too.

I was this child. He is just missing his mum and a quick phone call and a good cuddle with reassurance from Dad will calm him, I am sure.

Thanks everyone. He's asleep now! It's a very difficult situation as he spends more time here than at his mums and although I know he must miss her, sometimes if he's upset speaking to her can make matters worse. We had a cuddle and agreed that he would ring her in the morning. It's good to have a bit of support!

Being a mum is hard enough,must be really hard being a stepmum at times.
