I'm really fed up at the minute of dsd mother never being there for her but then she's buys her something and she's the best things since sliced bread! I can only see it as a bad thing as dsd now thinks everything revolves around material things. It's so frustrating.
Just had to get that out there.....
Dsd is 19 by the way.

...anyone think the same? Or am I being touchy.

'Not there for her' was probably a bit harsh to be honest but I'm just frustrated. I can't really say too much as don't want to out myself as the things I want to say would give the game away potentially. Top and bottom is her dm is only interested when she can gain something from the situation, otherwise she's busy doing her own thing. My dh has helped dsd no end education wise and it just seems her dm pops in at the end when there's gratitude to be given and pretends to have been there all along and drops a present of some sort in and she's the bees knees. Just hope dsd sees through it all but at the minute I'm not so sure.

Yeah, DSD's DM does something similar. has her own life, goes off with other dd and stuff, buys DSD another stupid doll/toy to keep her quiet.
Regarding education or step parenting in general, the DM will always step up and claim the glory/accredit it to her amazing mothering skills when in fact the step-parent stepped in and sat and did the hard work, the speech therapy homework and held her when she cried cos her mummy was too busy.
Its a thankless job, but be there for DSD, try not to get involved in DM's relationship and hope like we do that she'll figure it out for herself. Know you've done your best and leave it at that :)

My DSDs go overboard thanking their Mum, who can afford to give them stuff and me and DP are still paying her huge mortgage... Sigh!

Thanks for the replies, I just think it doesn't help the kids in the long run. They're raised thinking material things are far more important than anything else.
I think dsd will come to realise but we'll see.
