So how did Christmas go?!

For all of you with young SC who came to stay for some/all of the Christmas break, how has it been going?

Did it run smoothly like in a warm and fuzzy Disney film, or was it 2 or 3 days of constant drama, hysterics and you pulling your hair out at the lack of support from your DH/P?!

Or, as is more likely, was it somewhere in the middle....plenty of tantrums tears and quarrels, but some peacefull, calm and generally pleasant times?!

In our house it went ok. I am sm to 2 and have one on my own. They're all still young (under 8) so it was really fun. They were full of excitement and the house was full of Christmas cheer. By about 4pm on Xmas day the sugar come down hit hard and everyone was in bed by 6pm. We won't have them for Xmas now until 2017, by then they'll be soo much older. We tried really hard to give them an awesome time. I think it worked because they both said they wished they lived with us all the time.

How did everyone else find it?

DP's DC are older but Christmas went surprisingly well. Had the DC Christmas Day morning and then his DD had Boxing Day dinner with us which she seemed to enjoy. I had been nervous as fuck so it was a big relief. Both came round that evening too which was unexpected but good. No dramas.

It has been a very rocky road to get to this stage.

How was yours wdigin?

I have older teenage DSCs and despite a lot of flying resentment recently they were polite, respectful and nice! All of them! DP making sure they were too, we made a big effort, they did too, great!

Good! Low expectations led to pleasant surprises all round. Oh and the food I cooked was well received by all (Inc MIL!) so that really helped!

Well done all of you, it obviously can work!! All our SC were grown up before we got together, but we now have DGC between us, and it all went well....thank goodness!!

Mine wasn't great and feeling really crap as a result. We had been doing quite well as a blended family but I found a week solid of DSCs and all of us cooped up together really difficult. Things I don't usually mind or can tolerate in DSS, 10 (boasting, sulking, clinginess, extreme competitiveness with DSs) became unbearable plus I felt like I got no time with my DSs which is a shame as I work full time and was really looking forward to having time with them. Just feel like I arranged and paid for everything which everyone else enjoyed. First Christmas together as well since DH and his kids moved into mine so was hoping some of the tensions would have gone. Kids had a good time at least.

Well, I've said it before...but I really take my hat off to all of you SM's who have your DSC all/part of the time! I know I just couldn't do it which, when I split from my first DH, was why I consciously avoided any man with DC under 16!! I don't know how you all cope with the, 'my kids, your kids' aspect! And the being cooped up with DC who are not yours, plus the rivalry between the two camps, (still get that from one DSD even though fully grown) on a daily basis, would drive me mad!
