Please can someone tell me if schools have a duty to inform absent parents if resident parents take kids out of schools for holidays?

Thanks x

as far as i knew no because in the school holidays the child aint your resonseability if you dont mind me asking why it sounds like a strange question to ask

Hi and thanks for your replys.

Because my DH ex has taken the kids out of school for a holiday right before oldest exams. He doesn't begrudge his children a holiday of course not, but feels disappointed he wasn't informed. He felt he could've spoken to his ex about the timing.

sorry to hear that but the problem there is both parents got rightsto the child and useualy the mothers got the most i think you dp needs to talk to his ex calmly and ask her for futur referance could he be informed of when she is taking there child away so he can make arrangements if he also want to take her away

ScummyMummy · 03/05/2004 23:44

I think it'd usually be up to the parents to talk to each other direct rather than the school acting as intermediary. I guess it's pretty hard for non-resident parents to get their voices heard in practice though. Hope your stepkid does well in the exams anyway. Are they important exams?

Hi,

They both have parental responsibility.

She refuses to inform him of education and health and he has to do it himself.

If he had known this was going to happen he would've wrote her a letter asking her to re-consider his timing. Whether or not she'll listen is a another matter so wanted to ask if the schools have a duty.
