is this normal?

I have just seem my dsd has her teachers mobile number. Is this appropriate? What should I do? I don't think this is ok.

I work in a school - not normal at all. We can give out our work email to students to send resources, practice essays to mark etc but we have to copy on our line manager on every email. Your DP should contact school.

It's a female teacher. She is still in primary school. 11 yrs old. I didn't think this was ok. I've always felt the teacher tries to hard to be pals with the kids. ive also noticed that the teacher has her as a follower on instagram.

Get you dh to ask her. It might not be the teachers actual number, your dsd may have just saved it under her name.

I don't think it's normal for parents to have teacher's phone numbers let alone kids is it? I know at my DSD's last school parents weren't even allowed the teacher's school email address. At the current school teacher's email addresses are made available for pupils and parents but if you want to actually speak to a teacher you need to do it person at drop off / pick up or make an apt with the school office.

I think pupils connecting with teachers on social media is really iffy too!

Not normal at all , I was thinking maybe 6th form and a work mobile would be ok.

Very unusual. However, it does happen that a teacher or a coach becomes someone a child trusts to confide in if they are having a difficult time so they are given a contact number.

Has she recently been out on a school trip or something like a DofE expedition? We have school mobiles and the number is given to children for this type of thing.

She was on a school trip not long ago. maybe it is jusst a works number. The instagram thing I'm not sure about. Is it possible the teachers made a fake account so the kids can add her?

I just don't think it's right. I've always thought dsd was really clingy to her teacher but maybe it's because when she is at school she can say what she wants and won't be judged. ( btw she can speak freely here she maybe just doesn't feel she cant) I think dsd is really struggling with herself and the teenager she is becoming. I think she is worrying about school and going to high school. So maybe teacher has given her a work number in case she ever needs it. I dont know. Tried to talk to dp he was more interested in how he thought I was snooping her phone when actually she told /showed me and I seen on instagram a picture she tagged her teacher in. He never really bothered to be honest.

Pass. I have no idea. She is also on snapvhat a and Facebook. I follow her on instagram and quiz her about people I don't know just to ensure she is being safe. Her mum and dad both have her on Facebook so can monitor her posts. I'm not comfortable with kids on social media but not my kids so can't control it.

How old is she? My DD is 16 and she has the phone number of a few teachers (I assume that they are school owned mobile phones but I haven't checked) and they have her mobile number; they are given it (by me) when I fill in the forms giving consent for a school trip where they don't have to be with teachers all the time.

Hi, I'm a teacher and we have 'school' mobiles that we take on trips. We give that number to the kids to programme into their phones. The mobiles are returned once we are back, so not ever personal use. Instagram is a total no-no though, I wasn't allowed to set up a whole class Pinterest site due to social media restrictions. Hope that helps.

No! I would be sacked if I did this. We have one work mobile per department and all Learners (post 16) have that number to text or call if there's a problem/absence etc. It's regulated by the college so no problems. Same with work emails. Social media is just opening yourself up for a whole range of problems.
