Help? Writing a will as a step parent?

I am a step mum and have two SKIDS. I am a bit confused. I live with Dh in a home I bought 12yrs ago. We have no kids. I don't want his kids to have my home should anything happen to me and then their dad. I have a large family, neices and nephews and I want to leave them something... Am I being awful by not wanting his kids to have anything?

Yes I do! You married him knowing he had kids and they are his responsibility. How would you feel if your parents left you out of their will? Surely you can leave some to your family too?

I'm not sure it's that straightforward holidaymum. Does your dh have a will of his own oinker? And his x? How inter-twined are your finances with your dh's? Has he paid towards the mortgage? Do the step-kids live with you? Sorry, I'm finding it a bit difficult to comment without knowing a fuller picture?

They live with mum. We have our own finances. They are well off and will be more so when older. He will have a will soon . We are sorting it out.
Holidaymum I am sure he will leave them something but I don't want them having everything. Why should I leave them more than members of my family? I realise it sounds awful but it's just how I feel.

Wouldn't it be fair to each choose how 50% of the will is split? Sorry if I'm being too simplistic! I'm both a step mum and a step child and I know my folks have a very complex will to take into account both of their wishes.

Like you say its not so simple. But your idea is a good one... 50/50...

That's what we've done oinker - 50/50

Our Wills are identical and state that when anything happens to one of us, everything goes to the survivor. When they then die, the estate is split into two parts, his dd will get one half and the other half will be split between my 10 nieces and nephews

Thankyou.............

That's what we will do.
