daughter wets herself

I don't know how to handle this, back in the summer my eight year old daughter came home looking very guilty, when she walked in front of me I noticed a wet line across the hem of her skirt, and I discovered she had wet her pants, she had never done it before, and is dry at night.
It became apparent that she was and still is wetting herself several times a week, the doctor and practice nurse say she is healthy and shows none of the normal causes of wetting. She is a very happy bubbly girl and loves school. Being wet dose not bother her in the least and unless I tell her to change she wont. I have noticed that she is very friendly with a girl who moved to the area not to long ago, is it possible this girl wets and my daughter is copying her?, I wouldn't know how to ask her mother, any ideas?.
Thanks

Welcome to Mumsnet, Rebbeca :)

you may get a better response if you posted in something like the Behaviour topic.

what does she say if you ask her why she does it?

I have asked her several times why she had wet instead of using the toilet, she just shrugs her shoulders and says I needed to.

well... i guess I would tell her she doesn't actually need to at all, because there are toilets at school.

is there a situation arising where she cannot/won't use the toilets? is a teacher not letting her go when she needs to? is she scared to ask? is there a problem with the toilets?
if you have no joy asking her then speak to the school as well (i'm assuming this is happening mainly at school?)

i would also make her change her clothes AND wash wet ones. every time

My sister used to wet herself until about the age of your daughter, and my 2 female cousins would too. In my sister's case, she would be too busy playing and couldn't be bothered to go to the toilet. As her elder sister I would have to 'sort' it. I think her peers teased her and she stopped doing it in the end.

I think in my cousins case it was a medical thing. They were certainly doing it as teenagers, and they were very embarrassed by it. But they had always had the problem and it wasnt something that just developed.

Is wetting yourself something a kid would copy though?
