What does PR actually mean in practice?

Reading a post further down I am thinking that I should suggest that my dds stepmum applies for PR (or whatever the process involves). My ex is a lazy git and she does so much with dd it seems a sensible idea. I trust her judgement on anything medical etc.
but what are the other implications? Would it give her right over decisions about schools/ residency etc?? I wouldn't really want it to be two people with PR against one if ex got an idea in his head and wage backed him over me...

Iv just googled it.yes she would have a say in schooling nd all other decisions like you nd ex have.also are they married,as if not she has to be included in a residence order or adopt trough the courts to obtain it.

Hi Ellies your google skills are better than mine! Thanks for the info. I wonder what it would actually mean though... Like, if they applied for a school, would I still also need to agree... Thing is, she's wonderful, and spends so much time with dd that if it were a medical thing then I'd want her to be able to sort it. But... If he decided to be an ares about moving her school or something, I wouldn't want to be out numbered. They are married

Yes i suppose they could apply to schools,if you dissagreed youd have to go to court..has sm had any probs regarding medical appts etc

Not, not yet. DD always has to wait and go with me because Dad will always be too busy. There are times where SM has offered but I said it would be a wasted trip if they sent her away. But it's more like if she had an accident (touch wood!) while she was with her and if she had to make a decision.

To be honest the more I think about it, although it seems sensible on the medical front, and it would also acknowledge the brilliantness of her stempmumming.. it might bite me in the arse.

They haven't asked, I reckon they think she automatically have it now they're married. They got married recently and there's been lots of talk about how she's now a proper step mummy. Maybe I shouldnt worry then.

Sm probably just means officially now.dont worry,just see how things go.:-)
