Dh and I would like to do this for dsd, he hasn't taken any photos of when she was little, he just never takes photos!!

Obviously I wasn't there for the very beginning! Where would you start, what would you include and has anyone else done this?

Is there anyone else who does have photos of her who might be prepared to let you make a few copies? (or email them if digital) Eg her mum, grandparents, etc? Otherwise I guess you could just start it with a copy of her birth certificate, and a few written anecdotes that your DP remebers. Then photos from whenever you do have any, including some of your marriage, etc.

I have books for each of my DCs which includes some baby photos and records of their first words, etc. DP doesn't have anything as formal for his DCs (possibly his ex does), though he does have quite a few photos, old school work, etc which they like to look at. Definitely helps them feel the connection with each side of their family.

If possible, start at the beginning. If this is a book of DSD's life, then I would try if possible to make it reflect that - so start at birth. Personally I'd also try not to only have memories from her life with you and your partner, but also from her life with her mum.

How are relations with DSD's mum? Could you ask her for photos? My DSS's mum did this, and asked us for photos from our side of the family. But that'll only work if you get on ok.

Or other family members - grandparents, aunties, uncles, friends?

If none of these will work, you're pretty much stuck with what you've got, so I'd start where you can.

My DH largely missed out on the first couple of years of his DD's life and she only started doing regular overnights with him from the age of 2.

I kept baby books for the kids we had together and we were aware that she didn't have a book of her own at our home. So we bought one of those 'school memories' books for her from GLTC and have been filling that out instead. We started at pre-school age but you can start anytime. We include pics of family holidays she's been on each year, certificates she's got at school, school photos, written memories etc. Actually, I think she's far going to find more interesting to look back on when she's older than either of our kids do looking at their baby books!
