adopting stepson help needed

hi i have a stepson who is 3 and i really want to adopt him i have been his stepmother for two years and have been his consistent mother figure. over a year a go my partner won full custody of my boy and the mother lost all of her parental responsibility as he was neglected and some what physically abused by his mother. does anybody know how long the process can be to adopt and if we will still need the biological mothers consent. any help will be appreciated

What do you mean she lost parental responsibility? I didn't think that was possible unless a child was adopted.

Does she have any contact?
You will need her agreement. The court can override this but only in very VERY extreme circumstances as it will take away ALL her rights and he will no longer be her child.

I am also a resident step parent so can understand why you feel that this is the best option for you but I would think very VERY carefully before going down this route - it is often very difficult and if BM objects you will have a very hard time getting this agreed. You could try getting PR instead.

thank you fairy... i posted this under legal matters aswell and have a lot of new leads to pursue now. no the bm has no contact and only turned up to supervised contact once over a year and a half ago. her family does have contact which is why i may go for pr as i do not want that to be effected as they are very good to him. i do also agree that bm may be difficult so may have to wait 5 years as then she wi have no say as an absent bm for 7 years should be a simple adoption if the law doesn't change by then. i just want what is best for my lb and feel if anything was to happen to my partner he would be loved and safest with me. thanks again its good to hear from someone who has been in a similar situation x
