Can someone please clarify what the difference is between a residency order and a joint residency order?

Joint residency,is when the kids have 2 official homes with both parents.residency is one official home nd lives mainly with just one parent.

My understanding is that a joint residency order is when two (or more) cohabiting adults are jointly named as the resident parent. In all cases where residency is awarded, including joint residency, any named adults automatically receive parental responsibility.

Sometimes, a step-parent is named on a joint residency order and then has PR for their DSC.

Its both nadm.in the eyes of the law its equal parenting no one resident parent,nd yes step parents can be named in an order.genrallythe courts will give joint residency to both parents ,but it depends on circumstances.

I'm a little bemused by CAFCASS recommendations;

Parent B looks after child C all but one night a fortnight, where they stay with parent A. CAFCASS want to award joint residency to parent A and B.

Parent A looks after child D 4/5 nights per week and parent B looks after for 2/3 nights a week. CAFCASS want to award residency to parent A with contact order for parent B.

Why is child C going to be under joint residency when they see their parent far less than child D? Shouldn't both children be under joint residency or both children residency with one parent and contact with the other?

Does seem strange.your right they should all be under joint residency.have they given a explanation for it.?

No, no explanation apart from "in view of child c's age" - she is 14.

Child D is 9 years old.

Sounds like a similar set of circumstances to my DSC's.

DSD was 12, and DSS was 6 when the Court made the Residency and Contact Orders.

Residency was with Mum for both DCs, but the Court made a contact order for DSS but not DSD - they issued a recital that was dependent on DSD's specific wishes. Total nightmare, and resulted in DSD not seeing her Dad for 2 years because of her Mums pressure.

With a joint residency order for Child C (the older of the two), it adds weight to the requirement for Child C to spend time with both parents, and each parent to facilitate it.
