Morning,

I saw on another thread that NADM mentioned attending classes on step parenting.

Has anyone else done this? How did you find out about any classes? I've tried googling, but maybe there just are none in my area.

Thanks

The course/workshops that DP and I have been involved with are through the Centre for Separated Families - in some parts of the country they are available from children's centres I think, but since earlier this year, courts can order parents to attend as well.
They're not exclusively for step situations - but for any separated parents who are in conflict.
Ideally, both parents attend (parallel sessions, not together) but neither my ex or DPs ex have been interested - it was still really useful, though Smile

Thanks v much, gives me somewhere to start looking.

They weren't classes aimed at the step parents then, i.e. you and your DP, or me and my DP, about communicating over issues to do with step parenting your "blended" family? We don't often have conflict with the exes, but do between ourselves! Trying to find ways to resolve our conflicts over issues around all our kids without falling into the trap of judging/criticising eachother/reacting defensively/bottling things up until they burst out like an explosion! All difficult when you have lots of kids between you, but none that you share, if you see what I mean.

Sounds like couples workshops or even counselling might be what you're looking for - perhaps Lighthouse or similar?

Yes, I think so. Thanks.
