Mother's day - Happy feeling

Hi All

I just feel really happy and wanted to share that my lovely DSS turned up this morning with a box of chocs and a card for me for tomorrow, his mum dropped him in and said she hopes I enjoy them!

Aww, we've never pushed the mothers day thing for me, (I've never been worried) but as I've not got any children of my own it's my first mother's day gift and card ever and completely unexpected!

I'm sure the feeling won't last when he's being a normal hormonal stroppy teen again next week but I'm going to enjoy it for today and tomorrow.

That's really lovely and so nice that the mum encouraged it. I won't be getting any mothers say gifts from my step children. I have enough trouble encouraging them to bother with fathers day.

Me too just wishes. I've had a card (not a Mother's Day card - I'm not their mother - but a lovely card nevertheless) and some flowers from my quite grown-up DSCs.

This means a lot to me as I'm not able to have children of my own.

I hope you are as lucky with your DSS as I have been with my DSD and DSS. I know many people on the step-parenting part of MN have a very difficult time. :-(

Hi redhen - maybe when they get a bit older they will realise themselves and start it for you, stepmums get it tough I think, we are expected to do so much and I know it's not about getting something back, but just to feel appreciated is just nice sometimes.

Redrosie - how lovely, I am really lucky with my DSS, we get on well and he always tells people he has four people that love him lots, his mum, his dad, his stepmum and his stepdad!!

Mothers day seems so unfair on us step mums. We are expected to treat them like our own but I never get a card because I'm not their mum.
Luckily my sons spoil me rotten which is the main thing I suppose .

That's lovely and his mum sounds lovely too. If only there were more of them! Enjoy.

Got a lovely card from my youngest DSD (prompted i suspect by my DH, but hey ho, lovely nonetheless - she put a lot of effort in, adorning it with stickers etc). Nothing from eldest, but didn't expect it tbh - though secretly hoped for at least a text having never forgotten a birthday/ Christmas in almost ten years, and contributed significantly to her upbringing.

I got a lovely bunch of flowers, some choccies, a card and a personalised mug from my DSD today.

Apparently it was to celebrate the first year of me being her 'official' step mum (since me and DH got married).

It's not all bad.

oh how nice to hear these lovely stories. And how great that mum was encouraging! wow!

Hmmm, we're so far in now lady that actually me and mum get together trash our husbands and drink wine fairly regularly thankfully she's very much the "life's too short" camp to stress about stuff that doesn't need stressing about.

How old do children have to be to remember the father they spend a third of their time with on his birthday or fathers day? I don't expect to be remembered on mothers day by them but it just frustrates me how forgetful they can be about all that is done for them from this house. Eldest is nearly sixteen years old.

I received a card from my 2 dsd who live with us now. Their mum's drink problem has resulted in her going into a home at 50 years old. They visited her on Sunday which was nice form them.. It's been tough but it was lovely to receive a card and little present. They said "thanks for being there for us and helping us with our problems and being like a mum to us".. Moments like that I feel bad for all the rotten moods I've been in over messy rooms!
