Parental responsibility

Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice, Me and my DH is seeking parental responsibility for my DS, He see's his dad once every few months, His dad doesn't pay any CSA or have much to do with him, However we are all on good terms and there isn't much arguing, To be honest there's not a great deal of contact.

I'm not here to have a bitch about EX , He has agreed to giving DH parental responsibility however he's concerned that it will take all rights away for him, I'm not 100% sure if that's right or not?

Does anyone know how it works? We all wanted to avoid solicitors but obviously if we have to we will.

TIA

Hi, can't take away anything, there is space for up to six people to have PR. Only formal adoption removes previous parental responsibility.

But practically speaking, it does change some things e.g. if you died, it removes your ex's current ability/right to take sole charge and make unilateral decisions. Also impacts on future contact arrangements if you and your DH separated as would mean a 3-way agreement needed.

No need for solicitor, you all sign forms and take ID to court yourself. Easiest to all go together as the evidence you take (ID etc) needs to be witnessed by clerk of court). You need ID and proof of marriage etc - the form tells you.

That's really helpful, We are not looking to take anything away from the EX and want him to be in DS's life and welcome contact etc.

It's very difficult as we live a few hours away from EX and try to keep contact up as much as possible. With all three of us working full time it makes it really tough and EX works weekends too so there isn't a great deal of contact.
