I call my DSPs by their first names.

I am close to both sides - my Ddad & my DSdad both walked me down the aisle at my wedding.

I adore my Ddad's partner - she is great, but I don't think of her as a step 'mother' and I don't think she thinks of me as a step 'daughter' although I do think of her as family. She is a similar age to me and her relationship with my father started when I was in my late teens. They have been together for 6 years now.

Anyway, when mine & DH's DCs come along they will definitely call my DSdad 'Grandad' as well as my Ddad. They will call DSdad's parents great grandad/ma.

What should they call my Ddad's partner?

She is 25 so it would be odd if they shouted 'grandmother' after her.

What do you all do?

I really think it depends on the dynamics of the family.

My DBD calls me and my parents by their first names. She calls her DSDs parents grandad and grandma.

I think the difference is that Mum and step dad have residency and SDs parents have been there since she was 18mos old and she has two younger siblings, so it fits better.

I didn't turn up until she was 9 and as she doesn't often see my folks, it just seems right to use first names.

I think you have to ask her.

I was step parent to children who weren't much younger than me and I still keep in touch now. I wouldn't expect their children to call me Granny though.

DP has a step mum and he has always been adamant that his children don't call her Nan or Granny, which I think is a bit sad as their real Nan died before they were born and his step Mum is very good with them.
