So happy for George
Also brilliant for Isaak hadjar
Gutted I hoped this might be a turning point for OP...

Brazilianadventure · 26/09/2026 13:45

Thank goodness for that. So pleased for George.

Please Hadjar gets a podium.

Linblad did really well.

Sainz got a point - yay Williams.

Exciting tense race today. Gutted for the McLaren boys but so pleased for George.

Brazilianadventure · 26/09/2026 13:46

That is a grand slam for George, pole, win & fastest lap edited to add and led every lap.

Penalty for Colapinto. They are saying it might be a grid penalty next race.

Kepler22B · 26/09/2026 17:11

10 seconds converted to a 5 place grid penalty not enough for going bowling, I don’t think he even got points on his license. Not enough for a next race ban but I can see why Lando’s angry.

Comefromaway · 26/09/2026 18:50

Lando wears his heart on his sleeve. And now he’s getting hate comments from the Argentinian fans.

PieceofPapaya · 26/09/2026 20:20

It's getting horrific. I know Franco himself has said in the past that he doesn't condone the fan behaviour but the Argentinian fans regularly take it way too far - Lando fan accounts are getting death threats just for being Lando fans, and a lot of what I'm seeing is very racist and homophobic.

Fizbosshoes · 26/09/2026 20:54

I notice a massive amount of homophobia on f1 fb accounts. I am a relatively new follower and was quite shocked by it. Even in the MacLaren sm accounts there is loads of abuse for both drivers!

On their "official" channels they are obliged to come out with positive soundbites even in races where you know they are disappointed and gutted, but I think in the heat of the moment they are probably more outspoken and possibly more honest - Oscar had quite a bit to say when Carlos nearly took him out in Hungary and this is the second race where Lando has been really unlucky and been (understandably) vocal about it.

Comefromaway · 26/09/2026 20:59

They are human & they get angry. It’s competitive. You see it in football every week yet if an F1 driver reacts then they are somehow wrong/a diva/ a cry baby.

bluetongue · 26/09/2026 23:09

I was hoping for a Max win over George but it wasn’t to be. Not sure what to say about Oscar. Not sure he would have held onto a podium spot with McLaren’s lack of pace but some points at least would have been nice.

Truetoself · 27/09/2026 07:44

What’s the relevance of the homophobic comments? I don’t think either lando or franco are homosexual?

PieceofPapaya · 27/09/2026 08:37

They publicly aren't, but the the use of very homophobic slurs towards them still has an impact.

Comefromaway · 27/09/2026 09:04

There have always been rumours about Lando. He’s made public comments such as why does dating have to mean a woman for example. But his sexuality is his business and no-one else’s.

but homophobic comments do affect people whether or not they are straight or gay. People might have friends or family for example.

Fizbosshoes · 27/09/2026 17:27

So many hateful comments on Landos Instagram, its horrendous.

Ive seen homophobic comments about Lando, and also Lewis. As @Comefromaway says its their business, it doesnt affect their racing or any other aspect of what they are contracted to do but I think in a lot of sports, F1 being one of them, it might be difficult for someone to be "out" , even if they wanted to, because of how backwards so many people's (who call themselves fans but are actually really hateful) views and attitudes are

PieceofPapaya · 27/09/2026 18:11

It's also a sport where, should a driver come out, the amount of Middle Eastern money flowing through and the races held in countries where being gay is illegal could make life particularly difficult. This sort of fan behaviour only amplifies how hard it would be for anyone in the future to come out.
On the Argentine side, I'm now seeing inciting comments from their Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as celebrities like Agüero.

Brazilianadventure · 27/09/2026 19:46

I really dislike the negative comments and abuse drivers, their wives & girlfriends and other team and FIA officials get.

There is a difference from analysing races or disagreeing with decisions etc. and the abuse we now see.

Unfortunately the Argentines seem to find it culturally acceptable to abuse people, even more so if they’re English/British. The recent World Cup was a prime example.

Comefromaway · 27/09/2026 20:54

yes, I was going to say about the countries & money from countries where being gay is illegal making it even more difficult.

so disappointing about Aguero joining in. He was my son’s (papaya’s brother’s) footballing hero as a youngster.

Comefromaway · 27/09/2026 23:38

Let’s not forget what happened with Jack Doohan. He & his family received credible death threats from Colapinto fans who wanted him out of the seat & an encounter with armed men.

Fizbosshoes · 28/09/2026 10:28

I dont know if its true but I read that Franco wont get any penalty points on his super licence for the incident. I feel sure several other drivers have had a time or grid penalty as well as points for lesser offences?

Comefromaway · 28/09/2026 10:39

Lando posted this

Brazilianadventure · 28/09/2026 10:43

Lando’s Instagram message.
« After the race, I sent Franco a message apologising for the comments I made that I simply should not have said. I know better and emotions were running high but that is not an excuse, it was wrong of me. I've made mistakes of my own over the years and know this is very much a part of racing and fighting on the limit.
Me and Franco came to a good understanding, are still good friends and are both excited to get back racing this weekend. »
