How do I start an online fitness coaching business with no in-person clients?

Been grinding on my own fitness journey for years, and now I’m finally ready to help other people—but I’ve got zero in‑person clients to start from. Kinda feels like I’m yelling into the void trying to get this online coaching thing off the ground. I’ve got the knowledge, passion, and way too many spreadsheets, but no clue how to actually get that first wave of clients without a local base. Anyone been in the same boat? How’d you get traction, build trust, or not look like another random “fitness guru” on the internet? Any real‑world tips would mean everything.

are you qualified as a personal trainer and have you ever trained anyone in person? I’d suggest listening to the Applied Fitness Mentoring podcast for some great advice!

Why don't you want to coach people in person? I can see that counselling or mentoring works online, but surely most people would want someone in real life to show them what they need to do and motivate them whilst they exercise. If you just want something virtual there are apps.

Do you have a niche, like women in perimenopause or home educated kids or anything? If so join relevant online groups, check the rules on advertising and then start posting.

Can you be a bit clearer about what you're looking for? What you're looking to do?

I'm actually just about to do my workout and it's been put together by a local fitness trainer.

so I will be back later!

What qualifications do you have? Most coaches etc I know start off in person and expand into online alongside. I would also look for someone with qualifications in nutrition/coaching/excercise or biomechanics etc

Do you not have friends and contacts from your own fitness journey? You could start with them
