For me
Dedicated
Football
Casual
Tennis only when Wimbledon is on
Athletics only when the Olympics is on

OP posts:
InSpainTheRain · 01/10/2025 14:09

Dedicated F1 fan. Always watch any England football match. Always watch Wimbledon when I can (have taken a week off for this is the past and eaten a ton of strawberries infront of the tv). That's it for me.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 03/10/2025 16:11

Dedicated
Football (less so these days but go see my team at least once a month, watch England but loathe friendlies)
Cricket - Lancashire member, been to a test match and T20i this year (and rang the bell for the latter), go to the Hundred, watch all the franchise tournaments if shown
Darts - been to Prem League and World Matchplay this year and watch some of the streamed events as well as tv events
Biathlon and Cross Country skiing - tend to watch all the races but will see how we go now that Eurosport has disappeared

casual
Tennis - slams and Davis Cup. Do the Wimbledon ballot every year but only got tix once
athletics - major championships and Olympics
cycling - when DS or DH put it on
Rugby U - world cups mostly
Golf - Ryder cup and majors (tho have the Dunhill Links on right now)
Baseball and NFL - but not much, DS is obsessed with them

Sirzy · 03/10/2025 16:13

Dedicated (although not as much as pre DS!) rugby league fan.

Most others can take or leave. Enjoy watching the Olympics when it’s on. Will always avoid football!

steamingin · 03/10/2025 16:19

Dedicated as in attend local and sometime away in person and watch every other - football

Attend occasionally and pay and stream euro tour - darts

Armchair viewer - tennis although have been to Wimbledon and snooker - have been once to the crucible and normally go to Cheltenham

MagicLoop · 03/10/2025 16:31

Dedicted: none. Casual: cricket

gianfrancogorgonzola · 03/10/2025 16:41

Oh god too many. I really can’t afford to be dedicated to anymore unless I remove one!

Football I’ll watch almost anything unless it’s the really shit leagues and so will DS14. We have it on tv / radio all weekend, nothing like five live on Saturday afternoons!
Tennis ditto, I love it all but am definitely worse during grand slams / the biggest ATP events eg Indian wells
Formula 1 I’m obsessed as is DD17

casual
golf but only the Ryder cup
cricket but only TMS not actually watching it
Rugby but only World Cup / six nations
athletics - Olympics are in the obsessed category though

cosyblankethome · 03/10/2025 16:42

Dedicated Moto GP and Rugby, especially Six Nations, Lions and the World Cup.

Cannot stand football.

Bluebottlerecycling · 03/10/2025 16:47

I’m not a dedicated fan of any sports.

Both my teenagers play a sport so I’ll go to watch as many of their games as I can but I don't follow their sports at all professional level.

I’ll watch the Olympics or Commonwealth games if I happen to be a near TV if they are on. I take a similar approach to Wimbledon and a scattering of world championship events for various sports.

Not interested in either football or rugby as my kids don’t play them and I’ve never lived with anyone who follows either sport.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 03/10/2025 16:48

For Wimbledon fans - if you don’t get tickets in the ballot you can usually get them on the resale link. I’ve been every year since 2021 and never through the ballot.

SpottyAardvark · 03/10/2025 16:57

Obsessive :
Cricket. Test cricket is the greatest game of all.

Dedicated :
Rugby Union
Football
F1

Casual :
Most others, eg tennis, golf, athletics, racing etc.

Zero interest:
Snooker (boring)
Rugby League (I’m not from Widnes)
American Football (I’m not from Wisconsin)
Netball (silly game).

How far in advance do you get them? We’re in Lancashire so a trip to a full day of Wimbledon involves an overnight stay which means we can’t be that spontaneous.

RockyRogue1001 · 03/10/2025 19:28

None.

I'll piss off now and leave you sporty people to it x

CarpetKnees · 03/10/2025 19:29

Is going to depend on your definition of 'dedicated'.....

For example, I will watch any athletics that is on TV, but couldn't discuss it down the pub, as I don't really follow it, or know who is currently having a great season etc. I just watch it race by race / programme by programme.

Also, I watch sport 'live' at local level (club rugby, parks football, etc) but don't watch professional rugby - other than the wonderful Women's World Cup that has been on recently.
I have cricket season tickets for T20 and for The Hundred, but don't follow the results or league positions of other teams, just enjoy 'being there' and watching my team's matches. OTOH, I rarely go to the professional football team I support BUT I have notifications on my phone, follow their team news, follow league positions and rivals results etc.

Usually around may. It takes dedication though, I check multiple times a day from April onwards and for a specific day you need to be both lucky and quick!

MrsAvocet · 03/10/2025 21:18

Dedicated : Cycling & hockey. I'm involved in both at grassroots level and follow the pro sports fairly avidly.
Casual: I'll watch most sports on tv when there's a big event on except boxing. Most team sports I'm really only interested in the national teams though eg I'll watch the England football teams in the Euros or World Cup but I don't follow a club team or watch Match of the Day.

MadeForThis · 03/10/2025 21:38

Gaelic football

TokyoSushi · 03/10/2025 21:57

Dedicated: Football, Liverpool FC but loads of other matches, premier league, champions league, carabao, international matches, the works

Casual:
F1 - enjoy but can get a bit dull
Golf - massive fan of Masters/Ryder Cup etc, less bothered week to week
Rugby League - will watch sometimes, attend occasional local match
Tennis - Wimbledon, US Open, Australian Open etc less bothered week to week
Athletics - Olympics, World Champs, London Marathon, Great North Run
Darts - The competition over Christmas only

Love watching sport though!

Denim4ever · 03/10/2025 22:02

None and none

MajesticWhine · 03/10/2025 22:05

Dedicated: Football, Tennis
Casual : rugby union, cricket, formula 1, golf, athletics, horse racing, I will watch pretty much any sport!

ButterPiesAreGreat · 04/10/2025 00:15

@TokyoSushiyou need to watch the World Grand Prix darts that starts this weekend. It’s the only tournament where they have to double in and double out which can produce some interesting play and results.

moto748e · 03/01/2026 20:34

Dedicated: Rugby league, Pool.
Casual : rugby union (but only cos it's in the league close season), cricket, snooker. Only got a fraction of the interest in football these days compared to most of my life.

burblish · 05/01/2026 15:09

Dedicated: football above all else, F1
Casual: athletics, tennis, figure skating, rugby union (but only international), cricket (again, mostly international rather than domestic competition), track cycling, swimming, glued to both summer and winter Olympics and Paralympics when they are on. I'll watch snooker and darts occasionally but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.
Less than zero interest: golf, horseracing, baseball, basketball, gridiron, x games.

ThePoshUns · 05/01/2026 15:10

Dedicated - none
Casual- Wimbledon and athletics

BitOutOfPractice · 05/01/2026 15:11

Dedicated: football.

semi casual: cricket (I live next door to a first class county ground so I’ve got quite into it)

casual: any sport when the olympics is on. And darts. Been to a few matches.

Only sport I cannot / will not watch is F1

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/01/2026 15:31

Dedicated and casual with none at all. I don’t watch sport.

I’ve done a martial art for 2 decades and am a high grade and won medals in national and international competitions, but I wouldn’t say I’m dedicated to it. Yes, I enjoy doing it, but if I was told I couldn’t anymore, I wouldn’t lose any sleep.
