Hi all, I'm looking to set up a Swim School in the local area of Oxfordshire/Berkshire. I'm looking to hear your opinions on swim schools and what you find most valuable when looking for a swim school for your children. If you have time and live in Oxfordshire/Berkshire, then please will you take 5 minutes to take my survey?

Even if you don't live in these areas, could you just reply with some thoughts on:

  • What do you look for in a swim school?
  • How much you are willing to pay for a private/group lesson?
  • Does group size matter to you when picking a swim school?
  • And any other comments you might have!

Every comment is so useful to me and I really appreciate your time!!

Teacher qualifications
Safeguarding policy, insurance, Swim England certification
Group size depending on age/stage
Would it normally be the same teacher every week
What stage can they go up to
Waiting/parking areas
Back to back classes for siblings
Good communication
Cost - don't know it was a few years ago

We used puddle ducks. I really liked it that if we couldn't attend one week, as long as we cancelled enough in advance that we could do a catch up session if there was space on a different day.

Make sure the pool chooses is warm!!! One of the venues we went to was always freezing and heating constantly breaking. We ended up moving as lessons were always getting cancelled.

Thank you so much for this - super helpful to know what's important and all of those things I will try to bring to my own swim school :)

All of above are good.

Also ratios to adults and children. Do teachers get in the pool? I prefer T younger stages to have a L1 in the pool while the L2 teaches.

What connections have you got for swimmers to progress once they've got to the end stage you offer?

Also make sure your swimmers are a old standard. So many L6/7's move into club swimming who aren't of the same standard and although they don't move backwards they would be put in the squad with L5's.

I hate seeing swimmers swimming a length who can't actually swim a length!
