Happy New Year.

Thought I would start the 2024 thread given there is more political intrigue with the FIA.

2 resignations and one person choosing to not renew their contract. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/67906883

Plus allegedly another ex-Red Bull employee moving to the FIA. https://x.com/silverarrowsnet/status/1744375322131231089?s=46&t=lJm6-66fq4MtGcwwAsK6Kg

Goss becomes third senior figure to quit FIA

Leading engineer Tim Goss leaves his role as the single-seater technical director of motorsport's governing body the FIA.

Andretti bid rejected as an 11th team doesn’t on its own bring anything. They need to be competitive. The other teams obviously don’t want to split the £££.

However, GM are still under consideration, but they need to build a competitive engine for 2028.

So my theory about 2 more driver places changing the driver market is over.

Serious Lewis to Ferrari rumours this morning. I've never been a fan although he's grown on me in recent years but if he did what Fernando and Seb failed to do then I think that would make him as close to undisputed greatest as it's possible to be (and I say that as a huge Schumacher fan).

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 09:56

Anyone else think Sainz is starting to look a little homeless? I think he's a safer bet than LeClerc but he doesn't seem to get the recognition for some reason.

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 01/02/2024 10:02

I'm in - will have a read of the links because I tend to ignore F1 during the off season, so need to read up ready for the new season.

Have followed the sport since the late nineties, so will be watching this season - as ever.

JustLurkingAway · 01/02/2024 10:09

Saw the Lewis rumours yesterday but seeing them on some more reputable sites this morning!! Wow!

Early signs for merc's car must not be good.

Personally if it means more seasons like 2021 I'm all for it...

LookItsMeAgain · 01/02/2024 10:34

I'm just after getting a notification on my mobile from Sky News saying that they believe that Lewis Hamilton is making a shock move to Ferarri!

user1460571583 · 01/02/2024 10:35

Lewis to Ferrari 2025! Shocked

JimnJoyce · 01/02/2024 10:38

yes agreed it's on more reputable sites today

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 10:43

Confirmed! Woah!

<rubs hands with glee for the new season>

JustLurkingAway · 01/02/2024 10:45

I'm struggling to think of the last time we knew someone would be moving to another team the following year, before the current season has even started?!

Can't help but feel we missed out on Seb v Lewis at Ferrari☹️

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 10:48

Maybe it's his swan song, you'd want Ferrari on your list before retirement wouldn't you.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/02/2024 10:48

I'm hoping this is a very early April Fools joke. Someone somewhere saw that it was the first of the month today and forgot which month it was (as January never seemed to end) so released this press release but it's done 2 months too early

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 01/02/2024 10:52

Beeb reporting it now, so I assume it's a given.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/02/2024 11:08

So if Lewis is going to Ferrari and Charles has signed a long term contract with them (I think I read that he has) where is Carlos going?

jennywasafriendofmrbrightside · 01/02/2024 11:09

Really not sure what I am feeling right now....

burblish · 01/02/2024 11:12

Apparently there will be a Mercedes team briefing at 2pm today, at which the Lewis switch is expected to be announced.

Excitement. Massive, massive excitement.

This is what I'm saying!

jennywasafriendofmrbrightside · 01/02/2024 11:18

I was sooooooo hoping this was going to be his year for the 8th - if the car was looking good this year would he leave?

There is speculation Sainz could replace Guanyu at Sauber

Poor Carlos, he does seem to be destined to be permanently underrated. Although I would choose both Charles and Lewis over Carlos, so can't really blame Ferrari. Sauber is quite the step down though.

Maybe Danny Ric to Merc and Carlos back to Torro Rosso?

JustLurkingAway · 01/02/2024 11:21

Sainz has links to Audi I believe.

Seen some theories that Lewis has already decided he's retiring after '25, and wants to have a go at Ferrari before he does. Which makes sense. But it doesn't really make sense for Ferrari to disrupt their current driver lineup for that purpose? Unless they know sainz will be off to Audi anywayConfused

LookItsMeAgain · 01/02/2024 11:22

ColleenDonaghy · 01/02/2024 11:17

Why?

Because Lewis made a big thing of Mercedes being his family and to all intents and purposes it sounded like he would finish his career with the Silver Arrows team.
That's why it read as an April Fool's joke (also as it was made on Transfer Deadline Day, and the 1st of the month).

It is in F1 terms what Klopp would be moving to Everton in football manager terms. It's just such a shock.

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 01/02/2024 11:22

When Lewis went from MacLaren to Merc everyone said he was mad.

He wasn't.

If he pulls off his 8th at Ferrari, he will be the undoubted GOAT (imo). As pp said. And he gets to be the hero of Ferrari. I can really see why it would be very tempting.

But yes, I also assume that means this year's Merc is a dog.
