Happy New Year.

Thought I would start the 2024 thread given there is more political intrigue with the FIA.

2 resignations and one person choosing to not renew their contract. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/67906883

Plus allegedly another ex-Red Bull employee moving to the FIA. https://x.com/silverarrowsnet/status/1744375322131231089?s=46&t=lJm6-66fq4MtGcwwAsK6Kg

Goss becomes third senior figure to quit FIA

Leading engineer Tim Goss leaves his role as the single-seater technical director of motorsport's governing body the FIA.

Oh please let Adrian Newey be going to Mercedes for the sheer drama of it. It would piss Horner off so much!

He is probably retiring though. He sure deserves it.

Well Adrian Newey has just resigned his position. That is a big statement.

That is huge!

Wishing RBR all the very best in 2026 and beyond (from their qualifying positions at the back of the grid).

TooraLoora · 25/04/2024 17:11

Really hope he stays in F1

Brazilianadventure · 25/04/2024 17:32

Just came on to post the rumour, is it confirmed? I always thought he was a man of integrity and has been very quiet whilst all the shenanigans have been going on at RB.

Please let him go to Ferrari or Aston. I think the lure of Ferrari and Lewis maybe the bigger pull as he has said he wanted to work with Lewis or Fernando.

@Sulusu oh yes, going to Merc and Toto it would make Daniel to Renault and Christian’s reaction pale into comparison.

Perhaps Toto was hinting as things when he made his comments yesterday. Not about Adrian coming to Merc but perhaps about Max having a rethink.

Christian is having a shit year. Newey's leaving may have a domino effect as well.

IamII · 25/04/2024 17:43

Rumours that Adrian Newey is leaving RB...

IamII · 25/04/2024 17:44

Oh the last page hadn't loaded 😆

LookItsMeAgain · 25/04/2024 17:49

I would absolutely adore it if Newey went to Ferarri (that's what is being suggested on the BBC Sport website) and Freddie Vasseur got this over the finish line. Can you imagine Ferrari, Lewis and Adrian and Freddie in the same team? Absolute dynamite!!! Adrian gets car design, Lewis knows how a car is supposed to feel (he knew from the get go that the Merc for the last couple of years was miles off the pace) and they get to do it with the Scuderia.

Sweet!!!

burblish · 25/04/2024 18:02

Newey is a MASSIVE loss for Red Bull - chapeau to him for being a man of true integrity if the reports that he is leaving because of Horner's conduct are true.

Wakemeuuuup · 25/04/2024 18:18

I'd love it if he went to Ferrari

gingercat02 · 25/04/2024 18:58

Apparently, Aston are after Adrian, too, although I imagine anyone who could afford him will be.

Exhaustedpenguin · 25/04/2024 19:03

This is such exciting news. I can't see him retiring because surely he could've just reduced his responsibilities at Red Bull down, or moved into a more strategic role but still stayed on the payroll of RB if that was his plan. I really hope he goes to Ferrari - and I say that as a Williams fan!

Do you think sone big heads are about to roll at Red Bull? Maybe wipe CH's smug look off his face for once?

TheSpottedZebra · 25/04/2024 19:04

Blimey, is this really true? Shock
Huge news if so.

I really hope Horner DOES get his comeuppance, the slimey little shit.

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 25/04/2024 19:18

I am pleased/relieved Newey is going. I always thought him a bit more decent than the rest of RB and his silence and staying with the team would have had me doubt that.

It's gonna be very interesting to see where he goes!

witte · 25/04/2024 19:20

I hope he goes to Ferrari. Horner looks way too smug all the time.

Absolutely. Real integrity and has made this decision with his usual modest, lack of fanfare style. RB only have themselves to blame if they've allowed this to happen. Newy is such a fantastic, talented man.

TheSpottedZebra · 25/04/2024 19:29

Sky Sports suggesting it's more about the power struggle at Red Bull rather than the allegations against Horner. And that, aged 65, if he wants one last spin of the dice it is now.

IamII · 25/04/2024 19:40

I would love to see him at Aston, or, actually McLaren, they are so full of potential right now. Piastri in a Newey car would be a sight to see!

HappiestSleeping · 25/04/2024 21:31

He apparently wants to build a car for Lewis at Ferrari, but Aston have offered an open cheque.

If he's doing this because he has integrity, then having an open cheque might be enticing but having Lewis in a car that you designed may be more enticing. Also with budget caps, how can a team have an open cheque?
Any more sandwiches or catering budgets going through the roof 😆

gingercat02 · 26/04/2024 09:19

I think designing a Ferrari must be the dream, Lewis would be an added bonus. Perfect pre-retirement job!

Because it is owned by Lawrence Stroll who has a lot of money. I don't think the budget caps cover wages.

He doesn't like working too far from home which will detract from the lure of Ferrari, as Aston Martin are about ten minutes further from where he lives than Red Bull are. Then again, he is 65, so this could be his last hurrah.

I think it is more about the politics of the team to be honest. He doesn't like fuss as it makes his own job harder. Have you read his book? It is a free audio book on Spotify if you haven't.

It may be for that reason but I get the impression Newey wants out of anywhere which has internal politics and turmoil.

He can clearly pick where he goes next as any team will welcome him given his reputation. I get the impression he will choose his next team carefully and it will be somewhere that will give him freedom to do what he wants and build the team he wants. For that reason I can't see him going to Mercedes. I doubt that team would give him the creative freedom he used to have at Red Bull until recently.
