Happy New Year.

Thought I would start the 2024 thread given there is more political intrigue with the FIA.

2 resignations and one person choosing to not renew their contract. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/67906883

Plus allegedly another ex-Red Bull employee moving to the FIA. https://x.com/silverarrowsnet/status/1744375322131231089?s=46&t=lJm6-66fq4MtGcwwAsK6Kg

Goss becomes third senior figure to quit FIA

Leading engineer Tim Goss leaves his role as the single-seater technical director of motorsport's governing body the FIA.

Feel for Logan. I appreciate for the team and sponsors they have to field their strongest driver but it doesn't really seem sporting.
Also shows the big disparity between teams. Can't really see Toto saying- sorry George, Lewis is having your car.

Brazilianadventure · 23/03/2024 06:29

Spoiler alerrt

No surprise for pole but well done Carlos, P2. Lance out qualified Fernando by a hairs breath.

Alex got the Williams to p12 so repaid the team. Lewis not so good p11. DR 20 places behind Yuki!

How long does it take for NOW Tv to put it up to watch after the live finishes?

LookItsMeAgain · 23/03/2024 09:47

🚨🚨🚨Spoiler Alert 🚨 🚨🚨

Don’t read any further if you haven’t heard the news since F1 Quali concluded

🚨🚨🚨

Lando has been promoted to P3 on the grid as Checo has received a grid penalty.

why couldn’t it have been Max that got the penalty and made things more interesting?
Ah well.

Ah well.

Unfortunately if it was Max he would still be ahead by about lap 3.

F1 needs a massive shake up, let max go to Mercedes, get a couple of rookies in, let someone else have the RB seat - would love to see Sainz there for next year (before new regs).

I’m not liking the new presenting set up from the studio

No, me neither. Why is this? Can the budget not stretch to sending them to Oz?

billysboy · 23/03/2024 11:54

if and where Adrian Newey goes will be more instrumental than most of the driver changes

I was just about to come on here and say the same. Maybe it's a money saving exercise because everyone is cancelling their subscription. I'm thinking about it, as it's going over £20 a month from April for me. Think I might try my luck with Channel 4.
On a side note, I switched over to the F2 to see how qualy went for them. Looks like Antonelli out qualified Bearman by quite a bit.
I'm excited for some new talent coming into F1 next year.

From my experience it’s usually Monday for the on demand.

Google Sky TV Guide and select SKYF1 to see when they do re-runs.

I got a six month sub for Now TV sport for the grand Prix earlier this year. If the season continues like this to the summer break I won't bother subbing for the rest of the season. It will be the first time in a long while I haven't watched F1 live.
I usually get up for the Aus GP, but I won't be tomorrow, not after seeing the qualifying gap between Verstappen and the rest of the field.

I'm feeling very meh about F1 overall now. All the off track politics hasn't helped. All the obvious shite from the FIA and F1 in 2021 is all starting to really show it's long term impact on the sport.

goingdownfighting · 23/03/2024 20:58

@Sulusu you've nailed exactly how I feel. I didn't even take up the NOWtv offer.

It's a real shame. I love this part of the year, it's Spring, and the new F1 season is exciting.

I text my friend yesterday saying I was not going to wake up early for quali just to watch Max get pole. It's literally a yawnfest. I'm feeling really sorry for the commentators and pundits. They're clutching at straws for something to talk about.

WilloTheWispy · 23/03/2024 21:43

Agree @goingdownfighting
I just watched the Ch4 highlights today. No point in wasting a lie in for yet another Max borefest. And I’ll be doing the same tomorrow. I really wanted this season to be different. But no, it’s proving to be Groundhog Day…

mydogisthebest · 23/03/2024 22:38

Me and DH have got up early to watch the Australian GP for years but not bothering now.

I am really losing interest now. It's bad enough that Verstappen just gets so far ahead and wins so easily but with Lewis doing so badly (I am a huge Lewis fan) I am just not enjoying watching

Tilda77 · 24/03/2024 04:12

That was unexpected. So glad I got up for this one. We have a race at last!

IggOrEgg · 24/03/2024 07:04

As a Max fan, boooo. But as a racing fan, that was worth watching! Sainz in his villain era is fantastic, and I love to see a Ferrari 1-2.
DR needs to go, don’t know how many times I’ve said it but my goodness, he’s hopeless. Liam Lawson should have that seat, no question.

Rowgtfc72 · 24/03/2024 09:23

Got up for lap 25 and gobsmacked to see the running order.
Well done Carlos.
As a mcclaren fan, very pleased.

Brazilianadventure · 24/03/2024 09:53

Well done Carlos - amazing given his recent surgery. I bet Lewis can’t wait to get in the Ferrari.

Fernando was naughty defending George. I hope he is OK.

Max’s brake exploding was wow.

Rowgtfc72 · 24/03/2024 11:23

Got to say I'm on Alonzos side with his comments.
Not the first time George has binned it while pushing.
Think the penalty is harsh.

JimnJoyce · 24/03/2024 11:27

Even more hating this new Sky coverage

JimnJoyce · 24/03/2024 11:42

and a bit surreal seeing Kharun’s hands waving about when they’re showing on the Sky pad

Watched the highlights. Well done Sainz on that win, was nice to see a different three on the podium today :)

Poor George, oh my that crash could have been absolutely awful if Stroll's engineer didnt see what happened fast and warned him. They probably should have red-flagged it, if someone had gone into Russell when he was on his side like that, it would have been dreadful!

The penalty for Alonso was right IMO. The telementry is pretty clear. Penalties for ages now have been too lenient. I hope that penalty becomes the norm for dangerous driving from now on. As long as they are consistent going forward. Consistency has been such a problem since 2019 in stewarding.

mydogisthebest · 24/03/2024 14:42

It was good to see someone else win. I could not believe they did not red flag George's crash. That was really dangerous and George must have felt vulnerable until he managed to get out of the car

whenthelightsgoout123456 · 24/03/2024 15:20

It was refreshing to see Carlos win, it was well deserved.

It's great to see the friendships between the drivers in the cool down room after the race and also on social media

I'm going to demand answers from my mum as to why she hasn't yet won a race as she's had a full three months since her appendectomy 😅
