Sailing voyage

I’m sending my teenager on his first voyage this summer.

those of you with experience how does a 10 metres boat compare with a 30 metre one please? Apart from the space obviously and amount of sails.

immsorry if this is a stupid question, I have never sailed myself.

We have a 8.5 meter boat. It is small and everyone has to move carefully around and no one can get past each other. Also the bunks are really small and we have no shower (but do have a loo!). I imagine a 30m boat has loads more space!

Is this with friends, or paying for the trip? Any boat used commercially should be licensed & checked for safety gear, and the captain should be licensed too. The standard for a 30m is much higher than a 10m - because it's harder to moor safely, heavier, more powerful, and typically carries more people.

Generally, crew are more likely to get involved with sailing a 10m boat that an 30m one, so should learn more. But fundamentally, just check you're happy with the qualifications & safety record of whoever you're sending him off with!
