The British Triathlon Federation has created a new "Open" category to allow trans athletes to compete 😀

Hurrah, for common sense. Let's hope more sporting bodies follow suit.

Great! I'd like to see all sports do this.

This is such a good policy. Protects the female category unequivocally.
Open category allows TW male NBs and TM who are on T to compete without having to call themselves men if they don't want to.
All the while being clear that the category divisions are based on SEX. Even better, removes any incentive for early transition.

This should be the template for all sports. Well done, British Triathlon. This is what you get when you consult all your stakeholders - a fair and straightforward policy.

And those women who say TWAW they can go in with the men too if they really believe it. My bet is there will be vanishingly few of either sex in the Open category.

@Tontostitis
There are only two categories - Female and Open. The open category will have all the men, so there will be plenty of people in that category. Admittedly virtually all male in practice, but any woman would be allowed. In theory.

Oh i see that's even better

Karatema · 08/07/2022 07:52

BellaAmorosa My understanding is 3 categories; Female, Male and Open.
