If you watched this, what are you thoughts on the series? Do you have a favourite moment or episode?

I binge watched episodes 1 - 9 but just couldn't bring myself to watch E10 - the dual in the desert (Abu Dhabi GP).

So I decided to watch it today.

I'm 3m12s into the episode and Pierre Gasly has said that they will take each other out in the first corner! Daniel said it was down to the flip of a coin, Lando gave it to Max and then up pipes Stefano Domenicali saying "Political answer? Formula 1!"

Eh, I don't think so Stefano. I think it actually brought the sport of F1 into dodgy territory and with the new F1 season about to start (first race is this weekend), whether the sport of F1 won or lost has yet to be seen.

Any thoughts???

Yet to watch the last episode, will do so with my teeth clenched I think.

Weakest season so far overall though. I prefer it when there is more focus on the teams other than Mercedes and Red Bull. Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin haven't featured so far, and not a word about Kimi Raikonnen retiring.

Christian Horner has come across really badly this time round. All that "shut the f**k up" etc when Lewis is talking for example. And visibly schmoozing Michael Masi in the pit lane etc. I know Netflix over dramatise things but urgh, he is awful.

I didn't think Yuki or Lando came across too well either but I suspect that's editing with Lando at least.

They do twist things. When George Russell slapped Bottas on the head for example. George calmed down and apologised to Bottas after he finally saw the footage of the incident and calmed down. Netflix didn't show that he apologised at all if I recall correctly. Makes me wonder what else they warped!

I've binged watched it all. I think Netflix are finding its feet with the editing to maximise the most drama. The show has brought a lot of new fans to F1.

I also think it was quite weak, like all the episodes were just fillers/treading water whilst we wait for the main episode - the last one. Even though we all know what happened I still watched it through my hands.

I went off Horner more in this series, and I don't think Lando came off too well either. A poster on another thread said the issues with him and Danny Ric weren't true but not sure how true that is. I would've liked to have seen more of the old timers though Toto never goes amiss!

LookItsMeAgain · 17/03/2022 17:50

I agree that some of the episodes were like fillers/treading water.

I follow WTF1 on Twitter/YouTube and the main guy there was commenting that the episodes were all over the place and not sequential in the racing season. I actually got confused when they showed Leclerc putting his car on P1 in quali for Monaco but not being able to race, and the next episode was almost a re-run of that one but from a different garage/team.

I was very surprised that there wasn't even a nod to Kimi retiring. I don't think he was a massive fan of the series though so I doubt that there is any love lost there!

I mean they had pretty much a whole episode devoted to Maze-spin?
And nothing on Kimi? Bizarre really but I guess that is money influenced.

Gunther Steiner is the real star of the show, er I mean of the fookin show for me!

WinniesHunny · 18/03/2022 15:49

I woudn't watch it and am not watching any of the F1 this season. I decided that if I want to watch tv that was ultimately scripted by an incompetent Australian, I would watch Neighbours instead. At least that doesn't pretend to be real.

Massi got the boot did he not after the Abu Dhabi debacle?

Tallpaulwho · 19/03/2022 12:53

@Supersee

Massi got the boot did he not after the Abu Dhabi debacle?
He got "moved" into another position within the FIA. And the report where the FIA investigated the mess of Abu Dhabi er.. themselves, has still not been released.
YetiTeri · 19/03/2022 13:02

The last episode is pretty good, neutral but has all the main moments. Not one I could watch again but well handled

Sailorsusan · 19/03/2022 13:05

I watched the last episode as DH was watching. I find Christian Horner (and wife) too annoying to watch any more F1. The last race was a complete joke, and cleatly everyone else (except Red Bull) thought so too.

LookItsMeAgain · 20/03/2022 13:14

I thought it was laughable that in an interview that Horner gave to Sky Sports F1 pundit and former World Drivers Champion Damon Hill that Red Bull was "on the wrong side of the decision making last season".

To that, Damon Hill replied "Are you sure about that???? I mean seriously???"

Oh....

My.........

God................

I do enjoy drive to survive, but it also irritates me as they get the continuity so wrong. For example McLaren mechanics in their one off Monaco team kit being shown warming up at another race track, George Russell driving the same corner over and over again on his Spa Lap etc.

They do artificially create some rivalries, Lando and Carlos who are out playing golf together, Lando and Danny Ric - McLaren very quickly put out a fun you tube video showing Lando and Danny laughing over the DTS rivalry.

Christian Horners blinkered view of incidents that neutral F1 fans can see are not right. Toto gets scarily angry but I think he explodes then calms down and when he does speak to the media he tends to be more measured.

I love Gunther and his rock climbing was amazing and gave a really different angle. I hope they have his reaction to KMag qualifying 7th in season 5.

I would have liked the last episode to feature the FIA report and point out not only did masi and others make mistakes during the race but that the race stewards also made a mistake in not upholding Mercedes appeal. Toto and Christian behaved very badly and should have had a one race ban.
