food and swimming question

Dh wants to take ds (17 months) to swimming classes. The class starts at 8am - should we give ds breakfast beforehand? Haven't been swimming for years but vaguely remember something about not eating just before you swim...? Ds is always ravenous in the mornings so not sure how to do it. Dh not keen on getting up at 6 to feed him.

We've always been told to wait an hour. Having said that, I've sometimes given a bf within half an hour (but would have preferred not to).

Early snack then breakfast after the swim?

Thanks for the replies - I'll make sure he has something before they go then and more afterwards.

The waiting an hour thing is an old wives' tale. Just give whatever you normally would.

the explanation for why it's an old wives' tale.

I think the hour's wait in the baby's case is for vomit avoidance.

Doesn't always work
