Adult dd would like roller skates for her birthday. I don't mind spending on something she is actually invested in, but dd has never shown the slightest interest in skating before, other than watching it on YouTube, so I don't want to throw money away on this. But at the same time there's no point buying rubbish quality that she won't use because it doesn't work well.
Are Decathlon and Sports Direct skates any good for a beginner? They seem to be the cheapest places. Plus she can actually try on.
There appear to be two main boot styles that I can see: a slightly heeled boot where the lacing comes up above the ankle, like an ice-skate, and a flatter, more trainer-like boot where the lacing doesn't come as high. My inclination is that the higher boot would protect the ankles better, but am I right? Is there an advantage to one style or the other?
