When I was a boy, hula hoops were plain strong plastic coloured hoops that lasted years. These days they have glitter and tapes which fall off, and grit or ball bearings that make a noise and cause an imbalance. The tube comes apart in a few days, and the grit falls out either indoors or on the grass. I used to spin them and make them return to me, those with grit in them throw the spinning out of kilter, and make an awful, unnecesary rattle.
