Looking for my eldest who is a (very small!) 10 year old. We've had Islabikes up to now but am bauking slightly at the cost of a Beinn. She really needs a light bike since she is small and slight. The islabike is 9-10kg (depending which size of Beinn she needs, not measured her yet). Any other bikes that anywhere near as light?

I know what you mean about Islabikes. They do shoot up in price a bit when they get bigger. I have heard good things about Frog bikes. I'm not sure about the weight, but it should be easy enough to find out the specifications online. Other than that, would you consider a second Islabike?

We picked up an Islabike Luath second hand via a road cycling club. Triathlon clubs sometimes have junior sections too where people might be selling bikes in good condition.

Other than that, I would visit a good independent bike shop. They might be able to advise on something good, but not quite so pricey.
