Really knotty hair

Maybe I should be posting in Style and Beauty, but I'll try here first.

I have just-below shoulder length hair. I have lots of it, but it is quite fine, so the overall look is a thick head of hair.

I wear it in a pony tail for running. I run hard and I get sweaty so my hair gets washed a lot. If I take it out of the pony tail straight after my run and comb it through it's usually not too tangly. The problem happens if it's raining, or even worse just drizzling. Then it gets really tangly and I really struggle to get anything through it.

If I can't get a comb to it straight away and it dries it is even worse...I have almost been in tears of frustration.

Is there something I could use beforehand or some trick I need to do afterwards? I'm pulling lots of it out!

Have you ever used de-tangling spray? I thought it would be a gimmicky product until I actually tried it in DD's post swimming hair.

Or you could slick on a bit of coconut oil (just to the tail) before you run.
