Balance bike for 3yo - Early Rider Ally Runner or IslaBike Rothan

My ds is almost 3. He got a small Puky balance bike for his 2nd birthday and has loved it. But he's certainly already outgrown it. We use the bike 3-4 days a week easy. And we go to a BMX track for a toddler session most weeks so he's really into his bike. I'm undecided on what to get next. A friends ds has the Rothan which he likes, but I wonder if the Ally Runner 14inch will last him longer. Plus it looks ace! Downside is there is no brake. Anyone any views.....on the Ally Runner in particular as there are hordes of good reviews for the Rothan!!

We have a rothan which I bought because it's small, I think islabike do sell a longer seat post for it now but the handle bars stay at the same height. Have you considered the likeabike jumper it has good reviews for older children.

I got the LikeaBike Jumper for my ds when he outgrew the small Puky. I do LOVE the look of the Ally Runner.

Has he got a pedal bike too?

Up2nogood · 12/08/2014 11:57

I hadn't seen the likeabike but scoot and specialised do slightly bigger frames I just like the Runner and the 14inch wheels.. The others are 12inch. No pedal bike yet. I'd considered the Isla Cnoc 14 but thought I'd wait till his 4tg birthday although worried that might be a bit late??? When did you lo's start to pedal?

Anyone got an ally??? No one nearby sticking one do can't try him on it. My fear is he will look swomped by it now....but according to his measurements he'd fit it.

My dd has a 14" bmw balance bike that comes with pedals and cranks and chain and can turn into a normal bike.

It also has a brake which is essential imo.

Google bmw balance bike and it will come up, we git ours second hand for £50 but it looked brand new. They come up on eBay and we're on Amazon but expensive new. It is fab though!

I just balance it on our buggy or carry it and it's fine. But most places she rides it all the way, will do the 2 mile school run on it, so four mikes in total and is very fast! It certainly doesn't feel heavy.

Btw it's only that heavy with the pedals and crank and chain on, it's lighter without! And once they are pedalling you won't be carrying it!

Age 3-4 for pedalling.

My two that had balance bikes were on pedal bikes at 2yrs 11 months and 1 yr 10 months Grin

Islabike Cnoc14 is perfect for a 3 year old. But it is also good to have a balance bike to carry on your BMX sessions...

I think that his fourth birthday would be too late for the CNOC 14. DD got a CNOC 16 for her 4th birthday. If he's used to balancing I would go straight to a pedal bike. He will master it in no time. My (average height) DS scooted around on a Rothan for a few months and was then happily riding a CNOC 14 before his third birthday.

This is the thing about asking on MN. You thought you had a simple choice between two balance bikes... Bet you are well confused now Grin
