Knickers under running gear?

Hi all, just got some lovely new Nike running pants, the tight dry-fit kind. I have a question - are they designed so you don't need pants underneath? My pants(knickers) leave an unsightly line, but otherwise the running pants are great.

If you go commando just do a short run first to make sure the seam doesn't rub

I only tried it once but got awful chafing - but we're all anatomically different!
