Another random Oscar Pistorius question?

My DS asked me today whether he has another set of legs for normal everyday life?

Which was followed by a question by my DD as to whether he had to travel with them packed in his suitcase (i said i doubt they'd be allowed in hand baggage)?

There were lots more questions after that but they got sillier so i won't repeat them.

Yes he has a set of ordinary legs for when he's not running. There was an interview with him in the Radio Times a couple of weeks ago where they refer to his "day legs" and also to him having very nice leather shoes on, so they presumably have ordinary feet at the bottom. I guess he has to pack the running legs in the hold, but he'd probably have a separate case to keep them in without damage, maybe like the kind of solid flight case you get for musical instruments? That's just a guess, but he wouldn't want the airport baggage handlers throwing something that important around!

I heard one of the female amputee athletes say she had 5 legs: a day one; a swimming/ beach one; a "normal" sports one; her running one; and one for when she wanted to wear high heels.

High heels! Kudos to that. I can barely cope with two legs.

I heard that athlete too nearlythere. I didn't catch the beginning of the interview so I didn't hear who she was, but I heard her say that the high heel one (ones? Not sure if she was a single amputee, I think she was) was one of the first she got, as she had her graduation coming up.

Yes, as others have said, Oscar has 'day' legs. You can see him wearing them if you have a look at the medal ceremony for the 200m (held the morning after the race). Here is a rather lovely photo too.

I don't know about the packing, but I do know from a Times article pre-games that he only owns one set of blades. That really stuck with me - can you imagine an able bodied cyclist having only one bike. I think it was Lizzy Armitstead who was complaining that the women only had one spare when the men had two.

Go on, tell us the other questions. DD1 (aged 3) took quite some convincing that Oscar couldn't grow new legs. She thought that they were like hair or toenails .

Did you see Jody Cundy on the Last Leg? He said when he was disqualified (when the trap failed to release his bike properly) and he had his spectacular temper explosion, his main thought was to get his bike leg off and his everyday leg back on so he could rage about properly :o He said it was like wearing one stiletto heel and one regular shoe.
