Arrival time at Athletics?

Anybody with 10am athletics tickets? What time are you planning on arriving?

I don't live in London and am now thinking I was crazy for buying 10am tickets. I couldn't believe it when I checked them this morning, I just assumed I'd have bought an evening session. I must have been having a fit of absentmindedness. I'm going to have to get a train at about 6 aren't I! Ugh, so stupid.

So, 8am. necessary? Or is everything much quieter now?

We have athletics tickets for 10am on Sunday. We are planning to get there for approx 9. We are still totally in school holiday mode so getting organised in the morning will be painful Hmm

I think 8.30-9 will be fine. When we went to the Olympics we got there 2 hours early and the stadium was empty. It didn't really start to fill up until about 45 mins before. It is very easy to get through security and the stadium is near the Stratford end of the park (unlike the Velodrome which is a 25 min walk once you get into the park).

Cool, thank you, I will aim for 9 instead. Much better!

I'm going to the athletics and my train doesn't get in to St Pancras until 10am, so by the time I've got the Javelin to Stratford and into the stadium, I expect it'll be closer to 11. I'm sure it'll be fine and we'll still get to see two hours of events. The earlier trains were so expensive I couldn't afford to travel any earlier.

We went to the 1000 athletics session today, and yes, we left home at 0630 and were through security at the Park by 0820 which was much earlier than we expected. So you could probably leave later. We thought the tube through the City would be terrible but it wasn't - will be quieter still at the weekend. One thing I would say though was that it was much easier to look around the Park before the session than after. The place was absolutely mobbed afterwards, with huge queues even to get into the shop and McDonalds. Hope you had a great time - we loved it!

we went this morning and arrived at 10.00 sitting in our seats by 10.15. It was all very smooth and efficient

DowagersHump · 31/08/2012 20:31

We went today (had tickets to the park only) and it was gloriously empty while all those of you with proper tickets were stuffed inside the stadium :o

SoftKittyWarmKitty You wont get in the stadium for 11am, you'll get there earlier, the Javelin train from St Pancras to Stratford Int takes about 5 minutes as it's the first stop and then it will take you roughly 10 minutes from Stratford Int to the stadium including security checks, you'll be surprised how close the stadium is.

manicinsomniac don't worry about what time you get into the stadium, I got in the stadium for about 9.15am today after catching the 6.20am train from Doncaster, my friend and her two boys who were also travelling from Doncaster arrived about 10.30ish, they didn't miss much and no one took their seats.

MackerelOfFact · 31/08/2012 23:45

We're going too - aiming to get there about 8.30-9.00. Reckon the journey will take about an hour so leaving home at half 7 which seems quite unreasonable for a weekend. Have 9.30 tickets for swimming tomorrow too so that will be even worse! Shock
