Dog who’s staying with us has a big blackhead on a (checked by vet) warty thing

Will magnesium sulphate help? I am pathetic with these things and it’s making me heave. I can’t squeeze it! I’ll vomit! DH says to ‘just not look’ but it’s glaringly obvious and growing. (He’s not in pain or anything, not even sensitive around the area.)

How can a wuss like me solve this issue? He’s with us for a month!

Surely if it’s been checked by a vet - they advised if should and could be removed or left alone ?
Am I correct it’s not even your dog ?
Leave well alone and inform owner on their return surely is the only answer ?

It’s a wart. I am not proposing to remove that!

Will show a pic (owners are fine re my decision, that’s not an issue, don’t worry re that.) It’s the black bit (it looks more blackhead-y in real life.)

Sorry, but you’ll need to leave it alone. It’ll just hurt the dog and not be of benefit to him. If the vet has said it’s okay then just leave it be.

Can you dress the dog up to cover it up? A bandanna, socks, a coat, or something? As long as the dog doesn’t mind clothes of course.

BelindaLouisa · 07/10/2025 19:39

To clarify, I certainly wouldn’t hurt him, but that’s why I was wondering about the paste that draws stuff out…? It’s by his neck so I am taking his collar off a lot as it irritates the wart thing, the added black whatsit is just quite grim and you can really notice (I know Bruno doesn’t give a shit!)

If you can get a dressing to stick then mag sulph probably won’t hurt him. Maybe Google to see if it’s okay if a dog licks it. I doubt it would sting.

Hot compresses might help to draw it out. If he’s okay with that you could try that.

Having his collar rub it sounds irritating AF for him. Hope he enjoys his “naked” time!

TheRocksStoppedRolling · 08/10/2025 00:29

Just leave it alone.

BelindaLouisa · 08/10/2025 18:35

@FeralWoman thanks. It’s not in a lickable area so that’s not a concern. I’m currently just trying to pretend I can’t see it, even though it feels like it’s becoming as obvious as a beacon! A black beacon at that!

Is it defo not a tick?

BelindaLouisa · 08/10/2025 19:08

It’s definitely a blackhead! Absolutely definitely!

I agree with pp that a hot compress would soften that and may help it ease out. One of my cats has a blackhead on his chin which drives me crazy. He won’t let me do anything to it. 😔

He could wear a harness instead if a collar is irritating him.
