Suggestions of how to burst this

DS7 woke up like this today. It's no surprise, he's always picking and biting his skin around his nails. He's on antibiotics but it just seems to have got bigger as the day has gone on.

He wouldn't let the pharmacist lance it. He's very scared but it's also causing him pain now.

Any suggestions? If I convince him to soak it, could it burst naturally? Also is it likely to burst in his sleep?

Dip and keep in warm salty water and that should help draw it out.

He should have let it be lanced.

I've no medical knowledge but would magnesium sulphate paste help draw out pus.

Can he do the washing up, that always worked when we were kids.
Obviously wash up again in fresh clean water if it bursts in the water

Could you go to a minor injuries unit or out of hours GP to have it lanced now?

It will burst naturally. Looks like a whitlow. As long as he's on antibiotics he will be fine but it will need a good sterile clean after bursting.

I have some but it past its use by date in June 2023, so I'm guessing I'd best not 🤔

Maybe send him for a long play in the bath. Put a film on away from the water, tell him it's a spa night!

Sterilise a needle and lance it. Or, he could auction the task to the highest bidder and make a bit of pocket money 😁

I really don't think Sudocrem goes off!

I had one similar. I soaked it in salt water, dried and dressed it with magnesium sulphate paste and it did draw out. The wee soul, it will have a pulse throb for sure. I had caught my nail and it ripped and then got infected.

I think magnesium sulphate a year out of date will be fine.

Mag. Sulphate or warm salty water both sound like good plans.

He will feel instant relief when it bursts so it's definitely worth finding a way to do that. Poor thing. It must be excruciating.

I think I'd bribe him to let someone (preferably me) lance it.

Ask him to wash his hands well every hour or so in very warm water. If not distract him and stick a sterilised pin in it
With Antibiotics already on board, this should clear it up

Update! This is what I went with, thank you. I got him to soak it this morning and whilst he was plugged into his iPad with YouTube I just went for it 😂 he was torn between feeling betrayed or feeling relieved. A LOT of crap came out. Thanks for all your suggestions everyone
