What the bejesus is this? Warning pic of a weird spot that won’t go!

I got what I presumed to be shaving rash on my groin about a month and a half ago - came out in spots with heads, all painful but squeezable (yuck) and once squeezed flattened out, pain went and seemed to heal. A few new ones cropped up but then went the same way.
I then noticed one on my inner thigh - god knows why as I didn’t shave there. It just won’t go. It came to a head and I squeezed it like the others but this one is more persistent. A friend recommended hibiscrub which I’ve used since Monday every shower and it does seem to have made a difference - it’s flattened out and the skin is peeling but the redness around the base is also spreading!

im a bit worried it’s a skin infection but can’t get a GP appointment due to the doctor strike.
it doesn’t hurt at all I’m barely aware it’s there apart from when I see it. I’m wondering if it’s because it’s in an easily irritable place - thighs and clothes chafing etc - that’s made this one more prolonged?

applogies for the grim pic! Any advice welcome while I try to get a GP appointment.

Looks to be an ingrown hair. Stop with hibiscrub now, let it heal now.

Embelline · 13/04/2023 22:49

ooh I’ll ask for it to be moved thanks.
@icelollycraving i wondered that but is it usual to get so many at once? And if I didn’t shave in that particular area? It’s what I thought the ones in the other area were even though they were almost like little boils or cysts. So glam.

Thank you

its redder and a bit sore this morning so I am wondering if there’s an infection there

Ingrown hair looks like.

they are sore as fuck but will work itself out eventually hopefully. When the swelling goes down see if you can tweeze out the hair doing the damage. But also, let it heal and scab over first.

I think..

I've had one like that. I washed gently with a basic anti-bac hand wash and warm water then I soaked in a bath for a few evenings.

It took about a week to disappear.

Draw a dotted line around the border of the external redness (beyond the flaky skin) with biro so you can keep track of whether it's getting bigger. If it does significantly over the next day or so then there's a good chance it's infected, so if you've not been able to get a doctor's appointment then you'd probably best phoning 111 to see if the out of hours service can prescribe you with antibiotics for it.

Okay so I now have antibiotics as sent a pic to the doctor and they thought it was infected.
however I’ve had them for two days and the redness is still spreading around the spot, even though the spot itself has flattened a bit, gone purple and stopped hurting.
the big ever growing patch of redness is freaking me out though. Would two days of antibiotics be enough to start killing it completely? Wondering whether to ring the GP back tomorrow or not

How is it doing now @Embelline? when I was nursing we told patients that they needed to give antibiotics 2-3 days before expecting to see any improvement. It’s possible that the antibiotic you’re on isn’t the ‘right’ one for the bacteria causing the infection, or it could be you need a higher dose. I would speak to the surgery if you haven’t already done so about whether it needs amending.

Hi thanks for checking in. I’ve got an appointment tomorrow as although it’s gone purple and scabbed over the redness is still spreading each day so the doctor wants to see it to make sure it’s the right antibiotic like you said.
