Is this a burn or fungus?

This could be a neglectful mum moment. So I am turning to my sporn experts for advice.

Last October/November my son went on scout camp. Shortly after I was cutting his nails and found this. We decided he had burnt it at camp - they cooked on open fires. So it was left to heal and go away.

It's now nearly March......should a burn have healed? Is it a fungal infection? Have I left it too long and should get medical advice? (Not that there can be any better medical advice than mumsnet!)

Sorry this isn't high quality sporn with squeezing and popping.

Is this a burn or fungus?

Looks a bit like a wart (is it hand or foot?)

I don't know, but a burn would have healed by now.

fungal infections on parts of the skin that aren't damp, like between toes, are unusual unless you live on a farm (this is what a GP told me when my ds had something similar on his elbow) and handle animals regularly.

so on that basis, you could try some anti fungal cream, but if it doesn't work, a Dr needs to see it.

is it sore? Does it change appearance, bleed, or anything?

Looks like a wart to me. Get someone to buy it off him, or rub a piece of meat on it and bury it in the garden.

I thought a burn would heal - although he often has long nails so it's a bit protected.

But would the long nails mean it stats damp there?

As far as I know there is no pain. Definitely not bleeding or changing appearance.

Maybe I'll get myself in gear and actually go see a pharmacist.

I'm rubbish at these things....I usually forget to buy the bacon you need to rub it with. Or you have to do jt on a full moon and I miss it....I like the idea of buying it, I've not heard that one before.

And before anyone suggests duct tape - I can never bloody find the expensive roll of duct tape I bought as husband has stolen it for the gym declaring he hasn't touched my bloody roll he bought that himself. He so didn't l!!!

Pretty sure that’s a wart/verruca. Sorry op.

Looks like a wart, my daughter had something similar under big toenail.

I mistakenly treated it like fungus for ages.

Had laser treatment on it to finally shift it

Thanks all.

DS had huge ones, and after a while he insisted on going to the GP. The GP told him authoritatively that they would go on their own, and within a week or so they had disappeared. It was really weird.

So get someone he respects to tell him.
