Skin tag removal

I have a skin tag in an awkward area,it's been there for a while, but recently I think it has got slightly bigger. It's flappy so definitely a tag, it doesn't look warty.
Today I got cotton around it and pulled. Does anyone know how long this process should take?
It's throbbing, but to be fair it was throbbing before I put the cotton around it.

I have removed a couple of these with the cotton method. You have to make sure the cotton is tight but not too tight. It shoukd start turning black in a couple of days. I covered mine with plasters to stop me fiddling with it, and checked once a day!

When you say pulled do you mean you have tied a knot around it, or have you just tried to pull it off??

I tied a knot around it, with cotton. It's been throbbing all day. I can't cover it with a plaster, due to where it is. Hopefully it will drop off soon.

I clipped mine off with nail clippers. Quick sting and gone! Could you do this with yours?

It's been tied for a week, still painful, tried to snip it off this morning, argh that fecking hurt, bled a lot, didn't snip off. I will go to the go when I'm off in half term and see if they can take it off. It feels as if I have a pebble in my knickers, bloody uncomfortable!

Oh god, if I’d known it was in your bikini area I’d have never said to snip it off! I thought you meant ‘awkward’ as in awkward to get to… oh no. You can get freezing kits at chemists.. but please check to see if they can be used in intimate areas x

I had one in the bikini area some years ago. I had tied it and eventually cut it off it off with a sterilised knife. I had to bind myself for a few days to stop the bleeding. I don’t recommend but mine was so uncomfortable and kept catching. I don’t have a scar!

They will not remove them at my dr as considered cosmetic. Skin tags seem to be my pregnancy thing and I have a few. I was thinking of having them privately removed…

I had a fairly big skin tag at the top of my pant line. I go the removal kit off Amazon and it worked a treat

Blessedbethefruitz · 17/04/2023 22:20

Also used an elastic band kit with applicator after my second child... Never had tags before pregnancy. The large one which didnt disappear post partum was very near my bum. I regretted it the first day when it had swollen to 4x size and was very sore, but the day after it was a bit smaller and less painful, and fell off the day after that, no fuss. Over the moon with the results!

I pulled mine off last week. It was so easy to do

GlomOfNit · 28/04/2023 23:55

OP, is your tag anywhere near your anus? Because those ones (remnants of piles) can bleed and bleed and are also very susceptible to infection. I'd not be tying cotton round a bum one, tempting though it is.

I did have a bum one recently - I have moderate piles, have done for ages, but a while ago I realised while wiping that I could feel like a tiny pea on a string (of skin) hanging down! The 'pea' must have been 5-6mm across. Because it was quite a sudden appearance I took it to the GP (what a treat for her Grin ) and she said sometimes piles, when they swell up and cause some puckering of the skin, can leave odd tags and granulation when they shrink down again, but that the surgery no longer removed them and recovery from an anal skin tag op could be very painful. I looked this up and it sounds horrific! (it's also stupidly expensive to have them removed privately.) GP said that it would probably fall off on its own eventually.

I can hardly believe it, but about 5 days later it did! Suddenly I had no pea, just an empty bit of skin with a bit of blood on, and the next day the skin bit had vanished as if magically. Several weeks on, I'm still in the afterglow that the bloody thing actually came off on its own! Grin

My daughter had a skin tag right where her bra strap is and the GP was happy to remove it as it would get caught (this is recent, in the last 6 months). If yours is in an "awkward" place then it may be worth asking?
