So, for the last 5-6 months I’ve had a lump on the back of my shoulder; it was around the size of an edamame bean, painless and, unless you touched the skin over it, you couldn’t see it.

This week it has suddenly started growing, is now obviously there from both the redness and size - it is now over an inch wide, perhaps more. At the moment there is no obvious head although, when I feel it, there is a slight dent in the top of it which is also softer; so I’m hoping it will develop a head, or more than 1, with the assistance of the usually advised plan of action.

I have got DH to take a photo of it this afternoon and have applied mag sulfate paste and a dressing; I will change it tomorrow so long as the dressing doesn’t come off before then. I will keep a photo diary for as long as DH is willing to
keep taking them!! The first photo was yesterday in the bath; the second just before DH put the mag sulf and plaster on it!

TeddyBeans · 01/01/2023 20:39

Another shameless placemarker. Good luck OP! Can't wait for the follow ups

Mumdiva99 · 01/01/2023 20:40

Looking forward to the picture diary. I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

Placemarking. Hope it doesn't hurt/you can sleep comfortably.

It is quite painful especially as, because of where it is, whenever I sit back I’m leaning against it. Also, it’s got a bit itchy/sore since DH put the mag sulf on it - and that could be a problem as I suffer allergic reactions to the adhesive on a number of dressings and I’ve never used this brand before as DMiL gave it to me so I might also have found another one I can’t use in future!!

Hot compress, hot needle and pop!

Two potentional eruptions in one day! Place marking...

Hot compress, hot needle and pop!

I have sterile hypodermic needles available for when it has sufficient head to allow me to try that!! Will be doing a hot compress during the day once I’ve removed the dressing and mag sulf in the hope of bringing it to a head. Just have to hope DH is willing to be both cameraman and chief ‘popper’ as it’s in too awkward a place for me to reach comfortably and do it myself. Not sure how receptive he will be to that as he was already saying I needed to see the GP about it!!

It looks sore....😬

It is; which is one of the reasons I’m wide awake and online at 3.20am - I can’t comfortably lie on that side and it’s my favoured sleeping side!!

After a very uncomfortable night with little aleep, I changed the dressing this morning. Applied more mag sulf paste and it was quite uncomfortable, itchy and sore - so I’m worrying the paste might be irritating me. This is today’s picture which hasn’t really changed much since yesterday!

it looks infecte OP, you might want to get that seen to asap

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 02/01/2023 22:47

I had something like this a decade ago and before that the stable non interesting lump in almost exactly the same place then it got 'active' like yours.

When it finally was ready for a gentle squeeze it was the most fabulous eruption of stinky cottage cheese like stuff. I still dream of it today but all I have now is a teeny scar.

Good luck and hope you aren't in too much discomfort

I may try and get an appointment today if I can as it’s very sore now and I’ve had another uncomfortable night

Hope you can get seen today OP

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 03/01/2023 13:34

Rang GP’s this morning and got given a phone appointment with a Dr at some point today - and the receptionist said the GP may want me to come in to be seen (not sure why they didn’t just give me an appointment in their ‘sit & wait’ clinic which starts at 11.30 each morning if they think I might need seeing). Got to go to the next town over (25 mile round trip) in an hour’s time to collect my twins from nursery so hopefully they won’t ring while I’m out!!

This is today’s photo; DH says it doesn’t have a head yet and the mag sulf paste doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

Evening all. So, I eventually got a call from the surgery around 4.15pm saying the duty Dr had reviewed the appointment request and decided it needed seeing and giving me an appointment at 5pm.

I was in and out of the surgery within 20 minutes with a prescription for antibiotics and an even more sore shoulder - this is because the Dr asked if I was brave, then stuck 2 needles in the lump and squeezed so hard to try and decompress it. He did get some thick, blood stained gunk out of it but said it was quite deep and was difficult to empty. He then dressed it with Inadine and a dressing which he said to leave on for a couple of days (so no more photos for a couple of days) and told me to go back if it doesn’t improve or gets worse over the next few days!

This is the last photo I got while the Dr was off getting dressings for the lump after he had stuck the needles in and tried to decompress it.

Are you sure it was a doctor and not a vampire?!

I hope it’s feeling better

I realised what you meant as soon as I saw your question☺️

I wish he had been a vampire, he might have done a better job of draining it if he’d been trying to drain me of blood (and I reckon a vampire would have the same effect as the hot bottle trick!)

It does feel slightly less bulky and not as painful
tonight but is still very sore to touch. It took me until lunchtime to get the antibiotics because, by the time I got out of the appointment I couldn’t get to the pharmacy before they closed so went the over when we were sorted in the morning and they didn’t have any flucloxacillin capsules; neither did the other 2 in town. So I called up the pharmacy where we used to live and they did have it and we’re willing to put it to one side as I had a prescription; so we headed over there (it’s a 1/2 hour drive). Arrived to a full pharmacy and had about 40 minutes wait while they dealt with other people already there.

By the time we got back home it was getting on for 1pm and the twins wanted lunch but I got a double dose in (on the pharmacists advise) and now I’m playing that fun game of trying to get 4 doses in a day on an empty stomach and eating as a family with toddlers.
