My DMs boil - with pic

Just visiting my elderly DM. She has a nasty looking boil on her finger, it's been growing since Tuesday. So far she's soaked it in hot water several times a day, soaked it with hot water and dettol and I suggested a bicarb poultice which she wore for two hours but nothing.

If it was me, I'd be attacking it with a pin but don't think it's a good idea for DM.

Anything else you can think of to try? Pharmacist wasn't particularly interested. DM is getting very anxious.

Photo below, not a brilliant one but best I could do.

TIA for any advice!

My DM would have gone for the pin option herself. If it’s not too painful and she’s well in herself then you could just do nothing and see what happens.

Magnesium sulphate?

Or a hot cloth?

It looks like a whitlow-type infection. She might need antibiotics. When I had one I got prescribed antibiotics and told to buy magnesium sulphate paste. The paste brought it to an amazing yellow head and I was then able to pop it! Was 25 or more years ago but I still remember it fondly!

This needs a sterile hollow bore needle to prick it open and drain.
