Bartholins cyst - warning, quite grim

So while washing the other day I discovered a pea sized lump on my labia minora. Google suggested a Bartholins cyst but recommended a GP visit to rule out anything more serious.

Saw GP this morning and he prescribed antibiotics and hot sitz baths and massage. I haven’t had one of these before so hadnt realised that the goal was to pop it - I thought it should just go down - but the doctor explained. And I do love a pop….

Long story short I gave it a poke and it EXPLODED. Blood and pus went all up my sleeve! Very satisfying and surprisingly painless considering where it was.

Anyone else had one of these?

yes but it was hard work getting it to discharge.

Hugasauras · 31/03/2022 13:36

I had one recently and it was glorious when it popped. It was actually audible.

Had one a couple of years ago. I would love to relive popping it, was amazing 😳 however the pain beforehand plus getting it to come to a head were not pleasant.

ImAvingOops · 31/03/2022 13:42

You were lucky to find that when it was nearly ready to go

Mine popped midway between the middle east and the UK on a plane. Messy but what a wonderful feeling that was!

SilverHairedCat · 31/03/2022 13:45

Yes, a couple now and the last one took ages to pop. Twatting things.

Cyst On A Plane would be quite a different film!

Disappointed no pics or vid after a grim warning. But I guess angles would be tricky.

peonyandpeaches · 31/03/2022 14:02

These are both awful and wonderful all at the same time. I once had one pop by itself through the night and I was most upset I missed it.

scattercushion · 31/03/2022 14:08

mine was in such a tricky place to see that i took a photo of it. had to quickly grab phone when friend was scrolling through my pics!

Clovacloud · 31/03/2022 14:52

I’m getting them monthly at the moment (peri-menopause) getting one that goes that easily is the dream. I hate them now!

Sorry. To be honest I really wasn’t expecting it to go just then!

Mine popped in the middle of the night, was relieved it was so painful.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 31/03/2022 20:21

When I went to the Dr about one she informed me I had a scar down there! Well I never knew!!

Had one a couple of weeks ago and took 3 goes with a sterile needle to get enough blood and pus out of it to stop it filling and to go down. On a previous occasion I had one that started around 12.30am on a Night Shift - I was in A&E by 3pm hoping to get antibiotics for it and be sent on my way - I ended up being admitted for surgery but discharged the following day without it being operated on (by someone who didn’t look at it or believe me when I said I’d had it less than 24 hours when I was admitted and that I’d not been on antibiotics prior to my arrival in A&E) and, unsurprisingly as it hadn’t been treated, I was back in A&E less than 24 hours later with it now the size of a hens egg😱. Was operated on the following day and in hospital for a total of a week!
