Is this about to blow?

I've had a wee lump at the top of my ear for years, where my ear joins my head, never really caused any problems. But about a week ago it became swollen, red, hot and painful. Went to the GP during the week and was diagnosed as chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis. Prescribed dermovate steroid cream and she'll phone in 3 weeks for an update.
A. I don't think it looks anything like the photos of that skin condition online.
B. It's getting bigger and sorer and seems to have a nice green head or 2 like it's going to pop.
I'm not going to attack it with a sterilised needle, hot flannel or mag sulph, it's absolutely agony.
So sporners, do I see the pharmacist tomorrow, make another GP appointment or just put up with it? Do I continue with the dermovate if it bursts, is it ok to use on broken skin? The photo was taken on Thursday, the 1st is today.

This is Sporner Corner. You MUST attack it with a sterilised needle/hot flannel/magnesium sulphate. Sporner Corner Rules. No exceptions.

And yes, it looks like it’s ready to blow.

Video extraction.

I think If it’s sat dormant for a long while, then it is now telling you that it wants to be messed with…. I’d start with the hot flannel

WingingItSince1973 · 13/03/2022 15:28

Wow you have amazing self control not to want to pop that! (Hygienically of course) The pain would probably be eased once its out. Sorry you in so much pain it does look nasty xxx

Skelligsfeathers · 13/03/2022 15:33

100% mag sulph. It is begging for it!

Justmuddlingalong · 13/03/2022 15:46

So do I ditch the steroid cream and try and draw it with the mag sulph?

Ohhh my that looks painful. And I agree with @tiredvommachineasaurus - beautiful nail colour!

100problems · 13/03/2022 20:51

Bonus points for your nails, don’t let standards slip even when ear about to explode in pus ball.

Yes, of course you mag sulph it, only a fool would miss that chance.

@Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies. The first rule of Sporner Corner is- "We don't talk about Sporner Corner" . (John Barrowman broke the SC code by mentioning it on QI this week and is forever banished).

OP. The NHS is overstretched at the moment. You'll be doing them a favour by doing some home surgery.

Justmuddlingalong · 13/03/2022 23:43

I've had a poke about at it, but nothing doing. It's got a thick coating of mag sulph and a plaster on it. I can feel it throbbing but the head's not ready to erupt yet. Will see what tomorrow brings.
Thank you for the compliments on my nails, and the admiration for my plook. ☺️
*Nail colour is just a Barry M gelly polish, colour Bluebell.

Did they really talk about Sporner Corner on QI? I must watch.

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/03/2022 00:25

No, they mentioned the Queen of Sporner Corner - Dr Sandra Lee, Pimple Popper.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2022 00:50

It needs heat! Warm flannel 3x a day and a big dollop of Savlon.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/03/2022 10:16

Ok. So here's this morning's result. 🤮
It's still full of gunk, what's the story now the skin's broken, is it still ok to use mag sulph on it? Squeeeeeezing is still too unbearable.

It looked very infected to me and I’d actually have it looked at given its location.

Nnique · 14/03/2022 10:29

*looks

ImAvingOops · 14/03/2022 10:37

Blasting it under a hot shower makes spots ready to pop in my experience.
Keep it clean with warm salty water because that could potentially go nasty

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2022 11:58

Don't use mag sulph now it's popped. I would use Savlon or TCP and if you're going to cover it then use a dressing like you would on burns- lint free so it'll dry it out. Keep a close eye on it and see the GP if suddenly gets worse now it's popped .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2022 11:59

Bathing with salt water is good advice.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/03/2022 07:56

So, yesterday and this morning it had expelled more of the sludge. Less red and painful so I've given it a squeeze.
