Big lump on my back

As a regular of Sporners Corner I'm sure you'll be able to tell me what is on my back and how to get rid of it.

Yesterday I tried on a blouse in Next, they have great mirrors so I took the opportunity to have a look at my back, I be have a tiny recurring blackhead at the base of my spine and I wanted a look. So imagine my surprise when I saw not a tiny blackhead but a big lump between my shoulders I was shocked. I contorted myself and managed to snap a photo which confirmed that I had lump, it was impossible to get a better shot on my own.

Last night before bed I asked DH to have a look, I should add he's rubbish at this sort of thing so I asked him to take a few snaps. As you can see there is a definite lump and I would say it's about 2 inches in diameter. It's painless and isn't giving me any trouble but I don't want a big lump on my back so what can I do to get rid of it?
Tia

@Lavendersquare that's a GP job IMO, it's over your spine so could do with being looked at sooner rather than later!!

dementedpixie · 12/01/2022 16:41

I'd say it's probably a lipoma - a benign fatty lump.
See a GP but they will likely tell you it's cosmetic

dementedpixie · 12/01/2022 16:42

Is it squishy and movable?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 16:43

GP I would say. What does it feel like?

Lavendersquare · 12/01/2022 21:00

@dementedpixie it's painless and doesn't feel squishy or moveable.

If you look up Dr Pimple Popper she has videos of lipoma removal.

GettingStuffed · 12/01/2022 23:57

My guess would be a lipoma too. The NHS tends not to remove them unless they're painful .

BeMoreGoldfish · 12/01/2022 23:59

Also guessing lipoma but definitely needs a quick GP check.

I had the same thing. The doc confirmed it was a cyst (can you hubby see a pin prick type entry hole where it would have got bigger from?)
They suggested surgery (privately as won’t do) one day it just burst..it wasn’t pleasant but you’d never know I had it and saved me a few £100! Get a doc to feel it to check

Looks like a lipoma. I just had mine removed mid November. Mine was much larger that yours but did start off a similar size. Mine was becoming uncomfortable. I couldn't lie back in the bath, or sit back in my desk chair so they are removed by the NHS. Not going to lie it was a horrible experience and nothing I read online was anything like what I went through.

BellaVita · 13/01/2022 22:23

My DH has had two of these. One ended up being an open wound and had to be packed daily, took ages to heal, the other burst but wasn’t as bad. They did get to be very painful.

Definitely see your GP. It will probably need abs.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2022 22:27

Antibiotics won't help if it's a lipoma, only if it's a cyst

Blossom987 · 13/01/2022 22:28

I had something similar, smaller initially. Told it was a lipoma. Then it got infected and was told it was a sebaceous cyst (not sure if lipomas can turn into cysts or if it was diagnosed wrong initially).

Anyway, I was sent to a&e to get it drained (felt ridiculous going to a&e but the GP sent me and said that is where they do it). All was fine then a couple years later it seemed to come back and get itchy so had to get the whole thing cut out. Now I have a keloid scar which is still bloody itchy. Damn thing won’t leave me alone!

Anyway get it checked op to be sure but likely ok and won’t need anything doing unless it’s bothering you in anyway.

@Blossom987 this is what I worry about it coming back. Hard to keep an eye on your back sometimes isn’t it!

oohmamama · 17/01/2022 20:30

Doctor job esp if not movable/squishy/painful.

Wallawallakoala · 06/06/2023 20:52

Sorry to resurrect but I have something similar, did you find out what it was? I’m booked in at the drs but it’s weeks until I can get in.
